Traveling with inspiration - Story from the Outback Australia

in #travel7 years ago

Hello everyone! Some of you probably know that my family and I went for a journey to Australian outback. I cannot wait to share some of the things we experienced while on that trip. It all went really well and we have a lot of photos to show you, some really beautiful landscapes and places that are worth to put on your must see list. I am very glad that we can relive this experience sharing it here on Steemit!

I was thinking how should I start this series of posts related to the adventure we were on and decided to start with something a little different. When you drive for hours on the road surrounded by sand, grass and lonely trees then you get to spend a lot time thinking, analyzing and finally understanding. This is what happened to me as my kids were sleeping at the back, I remembered the book that was my favorite during high school years, but is only now that I saw it in a completely new light. I don't know if anyone had a chance to read this book ( if not I recommend it ) Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Scenery and the hours of driving reminded me of that book , but the true meaning came to me later when I heard a story about local aboriginal men that ran 130 km to save a life of a missionary. Human body is capable of great and heroic things when put under this kind of circumstances and it is just like it was in the book that in tough times we can see what we are made of and what does really matter to us. How much I would be able to sacrifice for people that I love ? My teacher once said to me that when you feel like you cannot do it anymore; in fact it is only one third of your capabilities. Is it really? Are we so comfortable that we are rarely pushed pass this point?

I want to leave you with a quote from the book: Wind, Sand and Stars that defines my need to discover, travel and explore that lovely planet that we live on.

" The earth teaches us more about ourselves than all the books in the world, because it is resistant to us. Self-discovery comes when man measures himself against an obstacle. To attain it, he needs an implement. He needs a carpenter's plane, or a plough. Little by little, as he walks behind a plough, the farmer forces out a few of nature's secrets, and the truth which he uncovers is universal."
