Sevan Lake which in Armenian is called “Սևանա Լիճ” is one of the main attractions in Armenia. Sevan is fed by 28 rivers and one of which fed 10% of water is Hrazdan river. The weather there is almost cool and the water temperature is 18-20 C in summer.
There is a little hill, in which Sevanavank is located on. Sevanavank is a Monastery and it is comprised of two churches; one is Surb Arakelots (Holy Apostles) and the other Surb Astvatsamayr (Holy Mother of God). The two churches were built in 874 AD. It was built by Armenian princess Mariam, Daughter of King Ashot I. Sevanavank is one of the 30 churches that Princess Mariam was built in the name of her husband. In the 1930s both churches were closed down and today just Surb Arakelots church is open to the public.
You can have a unique view of the blue Sevan and beautiful clouds. In short words the view up there is breathtaking.
However, it is important to mention that you cannot enter the church with swimsuits, very short skirts and so on.
In the end, I recommend you to visit Sevan Lake whenever you visit Armenia. You can have a fun time there but it worth to climb the hill to see the Monastery.
I used traveltoamenia.am and advantour.com sites to write the review and the photos are taken by me by my NIKON camera.
