SINGAPORE Travel Experience 2017
Kampong Glam | Haji Lane | Tai Hwa Pork Noodles | Night Safari
There are heaps of listings and a lot of good options depending on your budget!
1- Hai Di Lao - Hot Pot Place that opens til 6am
Good value for money, extremely good service and good quality food!
2 -Ya Kun Kaya Toast
We went here for breakfast. This is a chain-store so you can go to any of the many outlets they have. Extremely good value for money and very filling breakkie! Highly recommend! The Kaya balls are amazing and you have to try their egg! The locals drink the runny egg with a straw!
3-Kampong Glam - Arab Quarter, Haji Lane
A very special area in SG with a lot of cultural heritage! This place is definitely worth the visit especially with all the buildings and architecture. As I said in the vlog, you can definitely feel the culture even by being in the area. Be sure to also check at Haji Lane for all things hipster and stop by #Selfie Coffee. The coffee itself is pretty bad but it's all for the novelty of having your face printed on your drink!
4- Tai Hwa Pork Noodles @ Tai Hwa Eating House
Michelin star pork noodles! I liked it but I did not love the dish. It was however a lot better the more you ate it! This place gets packed during lunch time so make sure you go during odd hours. We went at around 2pm on a weekday and as you can say, there wasn't really a wait at all!
5- Shopping around Orchard
There are heaps of shops and name brands that you can shop from in Orchard! This is basically the 5th Ave of Singapore! Make sure you present your passport when you spend more than SG$100 to claim your GST back at the airport! They will process everything at the shop itself and when you get to the airport, you will have to present all the receipts and the documents that the shops give you!
6-Night Safari
A must do! The night safari pretty much takes up the whole night. Be sure to pre-book your tickets online because it does get crowded! Plan your night and talk to the staff working there! Avoid the tram when you see long lines because it's not worth waiting for so long! Be sure to check out all the walking trails as well!
I've never been to a zoo at night so this was a very interesting and unique experience for me! The scale of the zoo is nothing like what you'd find at the Animal Kingdom in DisneyWorld but it was still a very enjoyable experience!
7-Pontian Wanton Noodles House (24 Hours)
Chain-store with multiple outlets. I tried finding a website but I can't seem to find anything. Great dried wanton noodles at a very affordable price! Portions are relatively small but it is so cheap that you can buy 2 bowls but still pay less than you'd normally pay for a proper meal!
8- Natureland Massage
Chain-store that opens for 24 hours as well! I noticed a lot of businessmen, especially Japanese businessmen was at this place. Massage itself was average but it was definitely a great way to wind down and relax after a long day!
9- Forty Hands - Tiong Bahru
Great small cafe with good quality food! My coffee was a bit burnt but overall it was a great experience! It is however on the pricier side so be ready to fork out a bit more.
10- Tiong Bahru
As mentioned in the vlog, Tiong Bahru is a hipster neighbourhood situated in an old housing estate. It has very unique vibes and I highly recommend it! The bookshop we went into is called Books Actually but there are a lot of other small boutiques/shops that are also worth a visit!
11- Platform 1094
This Harry Potter themed cafe has no official affiliation to the movie or the books. They are known for the theatrics that come from their drinks. The drink we ordered was "The Goblet of Fire", the drink itself contains alcohol but you don't really taste it at all. We didn't try the food there and the service was not the best but I believe that this is because they are still extremely new as a cafe and they're figuring things out as well! It was a pretty cool experience and I'd recommend it if you're a big HP fan!
12- Little India
A very different part of SG! You can definitely feel like you're in a different culture in this part of town. We didn't spend a lot of time here but there are definitely things that you can do/buy/eat!
13- Dinner at Jumbo Seafood:
One of the most famous places to get Singapore's famous chilli crab! We went to the outlet at East Coast Cenre which is the original and the first store that they opened! Reviews have said that this is the most authentic one compared to the other restaurants they have. Make sure you make a reservation in advance because they are always packed and booked out! Highly recommend the chilli crab, black pepper crab, man tous to go with it (the buns) and the bamboo clams with garlic!
14 Clarke Quay :
This is the centre of nightlife in Singapore! Everyone comes here to go clubbing and for a drink or two! It has a great atmosphere and there are so many bars/clubs/restaurants for you to choose from!
15-Uncle Chieng - Ice Cream Sandwich Vendor on Orchard Road
There are a lot of ice-cream trucks around Orchard Road. We went to this particular one - Uncle Chieng and he had a lot of photos of celebrities on his cart! You get a lot of options in terms of flavours and the ice cream sandwich itself! Make sure you give it a go if you see the cart!
16- Koh Grill & Sushi Bar
Amazing Japanese food! Their signature Shiok Maki is definitely a must-try! Shiok is a Singapore slang that expresses a feeling of happiness and pleasure. The restaurant is located within a food court but the menu and the quality of the food is great value for money! Definitely worth a visit and make sure you are prepared to wait for a table as they often have long lines.
- Marina Bay Sands :
The most famous hotel in Singapore with its signature infinity pool. I enjoyed our stay here and it is definitely worth the money! The service, the pool, and the overall environment was one of the if not the best hotel experiences that I've ever had!
18- Chinatown:
There is a lot to do in Chinatown! We went during the Lunar New Year so we got to experience what it was like for people to shop and prepare for the new year! There are a lot of food options, cheap and affordable shopping options and a very rich cultural heritage in this part of town!
19-Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice - Maxwell Food Centre:
Located in the Maxwell Food Centre (Hawker Centre) is this gem! This was the best chicken rice I've ever had in my life! The chicken was tender, moist and the sauce was absolutely delicious. The rice however was definitely the hero of the dish! It was fragrant, flavoursome and all round brilliant! We got extremely lucky and didn't have to wait at all when we went but they do attract a huge queue during lunch and dinner! They also only from Tuesday to Sunday and they do sell out so make sure you plan your trip there wisely!
20-Cloud Forest - Gardens by The Bay:
Entirely different from the Flower Dome, the Cloud Forest showcases plant life from tropical highlands up to 2,000 metres above sea level. It features a 35-metre-tall mountain covered in lush vegetation, shrouding the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.
21-Rise - Buffet Breakfast at MBS
Like any other hotel buffet breakfasts. A lot of choices, good food, good price!
22- Infinity pool at MBS:
You need to be a hotel guest to enjoy the pool. It is absolutely worth the money!
23-OCBC Skyway - Gardens by the bay:
We missed out on the skyway when we went to gardens by the bay the day before so we had to go back. For a small entrance fee you get to go on the 50m skyway that'll allow you to get up close and personal with the supertrees and enjoy a really nice view of the whole Marina Bay area. I however, recommend going at night because it looks a lot nicer with the lights.
24- Merlion - One of the most iconic attractions in Singapore
We could see the Merlion from our hotel room! The Merlion is always packed but it is definitely worth the visit. There are actually a lot of Merlion statues around the city but this is "the one" to go to. Make sure you get the iconic shots where the merlion shoots water into your mouth
25-Lau Pau Sat, Satay Street :
Lau Pau Sat is the oldest hawker centre in Singapore, historically for fishermen to go have a meal after they dock their boats. Now, it is a very vibrant spot with a lot of different stalls. If you visit on the weekend, you'll get to visit Satay Street which is set up right behind the hawker centre. They block off the streets and you literally eat on the road. It's a pretty cool experience!
26- Fullerton Hotel. One Fullerton :
We took a walk around the Marina Bay area and visited the Fullerton and the One Fullerton hotel. It is definitely worth the visit if you want to know a bit more about the history of Singapore and how it has changed over the years!
27- Art Science Museum - Future World Exhibition:
We visited the Future World Exhibition at the Art Science Museum. They have set entry times to the exhibition so make sure you look it up and plan ahead before going to it. I recommend spending at least a good 2 hours there if you want to interact with all the installations! As you saw, it makes amazing footage and great instagram shots!
28-Terra - Tokyo Italian Fusion fine dining:
This is a one Michelin star restaurant and we visited during lunch time. The chef is a Japanese guy that grew up in Singapore. His food is a Japanese Italian fusion and it was absolutely amazing! Lunch was only $50 per head and we were so full afterwards!
28-Yunomori Onsen:
A great way to wind down and to relax before heading for the airport. If you are unfamiliar with Japanese Onsens, make sure you do a bit of research and make sure you're comfortable with the expectations and the etiquette. I had the best massage I've ever had in my life and I could seriously spend the whole day here!
Really an exotic place to visit.
thanks for the post , please keep it up
