Port Of Newport, Oregon

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

In order to get the most out of the road trip up Oregon's stunning coast line we decided to spend a couple of days at one of it's port cities.

A decision we did not regret!

There's something magnificent about a harbor. Perhaps it's imagining myself on one of those boats, experiencing the open ocean,

or the memory of crabbing off a pier on the Long Island Sound as a kid. Blue Crab is the common shellfish in NY, here it's Dungeness- which I tried for the first time- breaking a meat free diet I was on for years.

And if the harbor isn't enough to tempt you to this cool little port...

I'm endlessly fascinated at how the woodlands meets the water.

The next time we make this trip we will be going North to South and calling it 'The Lighthouse Run'. Seems like a good plan, and perhaps it will give someone out there ideas. Remember Highway 101, it should be on everyone's bucket list (especially if you happen to live in the US)

There is something about those places where land and water meet, lots of dynamics going on. The forest might be quiet, and most of the wildlife hidden from sight, and then it might seem like there's not much going on out in the deeper waters, but the place where the two meet always is full of life, attracting wildlife, or creating wildlife. Kinda like winter windows creating fractals of ice between atmospheres, or like how the precise place between hot and cold might create a tornado.

I like how they call it "The Port of Newport", maybe because it's not really a new port anymore, so they eventually had to quit calling it 'The New Port'.

Yes, exactly! And it's not something you see as much on the east coast, forest surrounding beach. Though it probably has more to do with man building condos and eliminating the wooded lands around it. But there is something about the west, like man couldn't quite tame it all the way.

That place between hot and cold- we witnessed it in the Ozarks, watched the clouds collide just before the tornado alert blared from the radio. It's terrifying and electrifying at the same time.

Haha, that's probably it!

travel and life....!

Yeahhhh!!! ;-)

Son of a beach! That looks gorgeous! Nothing more pleasant to the eyes than a clean beach. And by that, I mean clean of trash and people. I just want to run around it all day, preferably until sunset haha!

Yes, it definitely has more charm with less people haha! Though we don't have a problem with trash on beaches here because the fine for such things is a hefty one, jail time and big money :)

The fine here is quite hefty as well, but there are a lot of garbage who hang around the beaches here... Oh there's also a lot of physical trash ;)

Nice pics - it looks OK :)

James Cook - I've heard of him - the punk got around didn't he?

Ha, well if you check out yesterday's post, according to Deb it's much like New Zealand, which of course means that one day I will find a way to 'winter' over by you ;)

Nice to see that place all thanks to your blog today :) awesome shots
