Dear Fellow Steemians,
Today I would like to take you on a journey that was an important part of my bucket list. I'm talking about the Matterhorn. Originally I wrote this blog in German but because the Steemians really seemed to enjoy it, I decided to translate it for the English community...
The Matterhorn is one of the highest mountains in the Alps with a height of 4478 meters. Due to its striking shape and its long history, the Matterhorn is one of the most famous mountains in the world. Of course, it is also the landmark of Switzerland and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.
I had the opportunity to travel with my friends to Zermatt for a two-day track tour, which brought us the Matterhorn in its unique beauty. We had great weather and it would be a shame not to share these pictures with the Steemit community. I wish you ma lot of fun with my travel report to the Matterhorn.
The path to the Matterhorn began for us by train. Switzerland is well-known for its good public transport. I think, you can see and enjoy everything better by train. In order to get a view of the Matterhorn at all, it is necessary to go to Zermatt. This small (but meanwhile) crowded mountain village is cut off from any car traffic and one can only take the train to Zermatt from the village of Täsch.
On the way to Täsch you already have great views, here for example a beautiful bridge over a valley. The river in the valley comes directly from the mountains lying behind
Glacier waters from the Matterhorn region
Soon we reach Zermatt. Traditional wooden houses line the railway line
Looking forward. The mountains in the background are already part of the Matterhorn massif.
Arrival in Zermatt. Greetings from nice goats and wonderful flowers
Let's go. Our trekking tour starts with a steep ascent from the village
The first look back. Zermatt is getting smaller and smaller
Here you can see Zermatt from a vantage point. Perhaps one can no longer speak of a village
The look back is as breath taking as looking forward
The slopes gradually become steeper and the air thinner
Miraculous flowers line the edge of the path accompanied by singing birds and my huffing and puffing
A salami bread helps to strengthen. What more do you want in life?
Another look back in the valley, which disappears more and more in the background.
Almost arrived at our destination that day
Our view from the Hotel du Trift, our "Base camp"
Our hotel was located at 2337m
The next morning greeted us with a bright blue sky. The perfect weather for Matterhorn hiking
Helicopters can be seen quite often in the area, no wonder at these heights
Let's go towards the Matterhorn
Another last gander back to the hotel…
…and then it almost disappears in the vastness of the Alps
Of course, the path leads us even more upwards
And further up ...
What will await us behind the mountain edge?
And all of a sudden, it was there ... The Matterhorn
Of course we had to make a group picture immediately ...
... and one for me alone
we also saw some chamois bucks
Simply fantastic
Many sheep graze on the most delicious meadows in Switzerland
Another fantastic view into the valley with the Matterhorn in the background
A nice sheep welcomes us
The look back was also very impressive
You just could not get enough of this sight
Similar to Norway, you can see stacked stones
The beautiful Matterhorn
Our way to the valley was also beautiful with green meadows ...
...and colorful flowers at the edge of the path
To strengthen ourselves, we had some omelette with egg ...
… and a Rösti with Bockwurst (potato pancake with Smoked Sausage)
Last but not least I found my dream car 😉
We had 2 wonderful days in the Matterhorn region and I can only recommend to anyone to visit this fantastic mountain. In summer as well as in winter, the region offers many possibilities to collect memories for eternity. I can only recommend it and am really glad I did this trip together with my friends.
I hope you enjoyed my trip to the Matterhorn. If so, please consider hitting this small Upvote button. Maybe you also want to follow my blog @dragonator.

Wow, beautiful pics. Well composed.
And there's so many of them! A great travel-log.
So jealous. Switzerland is so beautiful. It's like every inch is manicured.
Upvoted you.
Thanks Joe... 😁
