I know what you mean, when my second screen died on me about 3 months ago, I went two days with just one screen. Drove me nut.

Have you thought of trying an LED mini-beamer? They're pretty great. Do a google picture search, you'll see what I mean. I am pretty sure you could make them work as second screen, though not 100% positive.
