It’s just a couple hour’s drive to Huatabampito today. We’re really loving these shorter drives. It was getting exhausting when we had to drive 5-7 hours each day, so we’ve been trying to book our AirBnbs about 2 hours apart.
Once again, we experienced pretty nice roads for the most part. We know some roads are going to be terrible on this trip, so nice roads are always welcomed with open arms.
We got stopped by the police again! Once again, they wanted to see our vehicle import permit. They ended up letting us go without trying to get a bribe out of us. If you’re traveling through Mexico, you must get a temporary import permit for your car. Don’t risk driving without one unless you’re willing to risk losing your vehicle.
We’re at the beach again!
We decided to stay a couple nights here in Huatabampito. Since it’s Maddi’s 26th birthday today, we wanted it to feel like a nice little birthday getaway at the beach.
The weather is gorgeous here and we have a lovely view of the ocean from our room. Unfortunately, our room leaves a lot to be desired, and it’s significantly different from what was shown and described on Airbnb.
You just sometimes have to take the good with the bad and roll with the punches.
The good news is that we’ll probably get most of our room charges refunded by Airbnb for these two nights thanks to all the discrepancies in the listing.
Finally, the delicious drinks we’ve been waiting for!
Although our room isn’t the best, there are still some rays of sunshine here! We can go to the local restaurant on the beach and get a large margarita or piña colada for 45 pesos (a little over $2) each. We can enjoy those drinks as we sit next to the beach with a magnificent view of the ocean.
Disclaimer: I’m still waiting for the restaurant that will serve us drinks out of a coconut or pineapple.
We’re sleeping less than 50 yards from the ocean. There aren’t many things as relaxing as hearing the waves crash against the shore as you’re falling asleep. Pure bliss!
Treasure hunting on the beach
We woke up in the morning and took Laska for a walk on the beach. There are so many seashells here! We found a ton of large (for our standards) shells, and even found an entire unbroken sand dollar! With all the broken sand dollars on the beach, we thought we’d never find one whole. I think our lives are officially fulfilled!
Next stop: Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico
