In my last post - the green color challenge - I've post some photos from my last year travel journey in the Danube Delta - Sulina Channel. I've seen that some people were interested about the whole experience, so I thought it should be a great idea to write a more in-depth blog about that trip. 

The Danube Delta (Romanian: Delta Dunării) is the second largest river Delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta and is the best preserved on the continent. The greater part of the Danube Delta lies in Romania (Tulcea) while its northern part, on the left bank of the Chilia arm, is situated in Ukraine. Its approximate surface area is 4,152 km^2 (1,603 sq mi), of which 3,446 km^2 (1,331 sq mi) is in Romania. 

Departure

Our Journey started in Tulcea, from where we took the ferry to Sulina. 

This was not exactly our ferry, but 99% was the same like this one.

The view from the ferry was really nice and the wind was a pleasure due to the high temperature. Even our dog, Rocky, enjoyed the wind. (he always does)

There were also some speedboats from Tulcea to Sulina that would take you 3 times faster, but those were usually full due to the reservation system. We found out about them when we get there, so we had to stick to the old ferry.

We arrived there in the afternoon and after we settled in our room, the view on the side of the channel was a bliss. 

Channels cruise

Because one of the place attractions is to rent a boat and go through the small water channels and see where the Delta drains into the Danube, we've rent this boat for the next day.

The next day was awesome. The boat was really cool. And the sightseeing was awesome. 

Birds Island Cruise

In the same they, we've gone into a more challenging "cruise". We went with some locals and their old "speed" boat to the Birds Island. It is said that there are the most species of birds pet square meter in the world.

Unfortunately, in that period there were not so many birds as we hoped, but the adventure was there. As we were heading to the island, the waves started to get pretty big and they were splashing in the boat and on our faces. Here you can see the boat:

We had to let our marks on that island. :)

Safari Time

In the next day, we went on a Safari-like trip. We've seen the old Letea forest with sand mountains right in the middle of it and huge hundreds years old trees. 

It was really hot, so out dog would sit everywhere in the shadows.

On of the biggest surprises was the salt lake that we found in the middle of nowhere, next to mountains of sand. In that summer time hot weather, it was the perfect time to jump in the water. Even Rocky, our dog, tried it. 

Beach

This trip was a totally success, even without the beach. But the fact that 5 minutes away there was a beach, it was a really cool fact that added to the top of the cake. That sand from the beach, certainly is the finest sand I've ever seen and touched.

So, this was our awesome trip to the Danube Delta. We really enjoyed it, and I do really hope that if you have the time and chance, you go and see the magic place.
