Canada is a beautiful country, blessed with a fascinating nature that invites you to walk and explore it. If you have the opportunity to do so, don't hesitate and throw yourself into the adventure. During my two-month stay in Vancouver, I took advantage of every minute of my free time to get to know every corner of the city and its surroundings. So it was that one Sunday in August 2008 I met up with a group of friends in the upper part of North Vancouver to climb the closest peak to the city, Grouse Mountain. If you're the hiking type, I can tell you that this beautiful place offers that and much more.
The adventure began on 27th Street in North Vancouver. There I stayed in the home of a very kind Filipino family for two months and became an expert with the TransLink public transportation system that in addition to the bus also operates the SeaBus, the subway called SkyTrain and the train known as the West Coast Express. That day I walked at least four blocks to the bus stop. There I waited for it very little time because it is extraordinarily accurate and runs exactly at the time indicated on the transportation schedule. The 232 bus took me to the meeting point at the Skyride facility at the foot of the mountain where I would meet my friends.

GROUSE GRIND TRAIL
The organization, logistics, and infrastructure of all tourist sites in Canada are designed for the maximum enjoyment of users and Grouse Mountain is no exception. While you have the option of boarding the cable car and making the round trip, we opted to hike up via the Grouse Grind trail, which has all the signage in plain sight. Two reasons prompted us to do this hike. The first is that we had already planned to hike and, second, the high cost of the round trip cable car ticket. I don't remember how much it was, but I can recall that the return was only worth a small fraction of the round trip.
SENDERO GROUSE GRIND
My friends, a group of guys who on average would have been 10 years younger than me, left my skin in no time and I had to make the climb alone. I know what you are thinking, but it was not because of my physical condition 😂 , but because I stopped so often to admire the beauty of the mountain and take pictures of everything. When I visit a place for the first time, I enjoy and appreciate it to the fullest. I was enraptured with nature and the beautiful view of the city of Vancouver that began to come into view with every step I took. I felt very wet and cold during the ride, but it was bearable. If you are well-equipped as I was, you won't have any problem.
Grouse Grind is steep from the start and no climbing skill is required, but it is important to be prepared for the effort involved in a medium-difficulty hike.
As shown on the map, the trail begins a few meters from the Skyride (cable car) facilities and comprises a route of approximately 3 kilometers to the summit where all the attractions and outdoor activities are located.
The previous days before climbing the mountain I had read in the local newspaper about a bear attacking a person and although the possibility of getting an animal on the trail was feasible, this was soon forgotten. I love to observe nature. Huge pines and moss were everywhere to be seen, but soon another view was also appearing and becoming more and more interesting, the city of Vancouver.

CENTRAL BASE
It took me about two hours to climb up to the central base, which is 900 meters above sea level. After taking pictures around the main building, I went straight to the bathroom to take off my sweater and dry off because although it was very cold, the humidity and the effort of the climb made me soaked in sweat. Luckily I had a spare flannel in my backpack and changed.
BASE CENTRAL
Once at the top, I had the opportunity to capture several beautiful images of the Skyride and the different views I could see. Some towards Capilano Lake, others towards the different elevations, and finally towards the beautiful city of Vancouver.
