So we will start with a little word on the title of today's piece. We feel the pictures we are about to share are of some of the best city skyline/sunsets we have had the pleasure of experiencing. For us to have the title of the terrible travellers really seems like a false statement after a day like today. So this is why we are keen to submit to @MyPictureDay . We don't want to beat around the bush, so we'll kick things off with one of the best in our opinion.
We had the pleasure of scaling the tenement roofs of St Petersburg in a clandestine fashion. We were told that this tour was sanctioned but not legal. Assuming there was something lost in translation, we thought nothing of it.
We climbed quietly up six stories, finding ourselves in a circular brick building. Awestruck by the view we took numerous pictures of pretty much the same view....as you do.
After a short background story into the structure, which was constructed in order to keep watch during WW2, we climbed back down through the roof space.
We emerged from a small hole in the roof and walked to the corner of the buildings.
After the photos were taken we were told some more historical stories before making our way over the roof area and down the small hatch. The photos really do no justice for these views and the fact they were taken on an iPhone only amplifies this. Nevertheless, it was and amazing experience and we would recommend this to anyone living or planning to visit St Petersburg.
We felt we had to share this with you guys tonight and we will bring you part 2 of our day tomorrow. A clue into some of the content follows.
