in #travel7 years ago

Hello, Friends Hope you are fine and doing well. Here I bring you my journey of western ghats in India let me tell you why I prefer it and love it.

I've usually loved my geography lessons throughout the school. And drawing, shading and marking maps have usually been a personal preferred. perhaps this is why I'm addicted to grownup coloring books right now. however, this is an apart.

Everytime I think of the Western Ghats, I recall my elegance when we used to mark and color the western stretch of India on the map, all of the way from the end of Tamil Nadu to Kerala and proper up to Goa. and then there was the Eastern Ghats as well

I used to have two special sunglasses of brown – the darker and bolder one became used to mark the Western Ghats and the lighter colour changed into for the eastern.

I love the Western Ghats. duration. I was delivered to it as a 3-year-old while we used to force from Chennai to visit Sringeri after which we stayed in my grandfather’s coffee estates in Chikmagalur. And the fascination stays even these days. there may be an element of nostalgia every time you observed it regardless of whether or not it was a road journey or a train journey.

I have traversed the Western Ghats numerous instances and it has almost come to be an annual pilgrimage.a few statistics from the Wikipedia – the 1600 km long unbroken chain of mountains occupies a place of 160000 square km. There are approximately 39 man or woman websites that make up this world history web site which includes reserve forests and countrywide parks.

However then there are mountains and mountains and there may be the Western Ghats, a UNESCO international history site. And in my view, I suppose there is more to it as, than simply hills stitched collectively forming ranges, peaks, and valleys.

Here's a publish on why it is so unique to me and the motives you have to go to the Western Ghats in India.

The green cover is all-encompassing. From evergreen tropical rain forests to deciduous jungles to shola forests, the dense cover here can take you to a distinct global. It isn't pretty much tiger tourism.

ghat 8.jpg

From elephants to massive cats, wild dogs to langurs, sloth bears to wild boars, the forests are domestic to wildlife. And there are numerous endemics which might be located only right here.

Now my personal preferred – birds. The birds of Western Ghats are special – resident, migratory and the endemic. nearly 500 species are determined to right here. I've seen sorts of bulbuls, hornbills .sunbirds, flycatchers, thrushes and melted away like Keats taking note of their songs.

There are a few special birding locations as well – one among my favourites being Ganeshgudi at the banks of the River Kali in Karnataka.

And as for natural world destinations – my non-public suggestions are KMTR – Kalakadu Mundanthurai Tiger Sanctuary and Bandipur and Nagarhole forests separated by the River Kabini. there is BR Hills and Valparai as nicely, which you need to now not pass over. The forests of Goa are every other favorite.

Iconic Mountain levels

We've grown up speaking about the Himalayas and the Alps, the Atlas and the Andes, however, in a totally unique way, the Western Ghats has its personal unique iconic stages too.

The Sahyadris, the Annaimalais and of course, the Nilgiris, wherein the West and the East meet.

And then there is the Cardamom Hills and B R Hills and the best peak is Anaimudi in Kerala. Trek, camp, relax – how can everyone now not be beckoned by way of the mountains? some other purpose if you want to go to the Western Ghats.

Springs and streams

A mountain spring forms into a tiny rivulet murmuring through the woods and will become a bit river. The Western Ghats has given many a river its source. The Cauvery’s little beginning place in Coorg is called Talacauvery.

Athirapally Falls

The Tungabhadra, the Krishna, the Godavari , the Zuari, the Mandovi and my very personal Tambiraparani – all have their origins here and their tributaries run amok in the hills, charting their own guides.

They're restricted in dams or they gush as cascades. appearance anywhere around you and you will discover a river nearby. So if you love the water, you may certainly want to go to the Western Ghats.

Where oceans meet the mountains

The Western Ghats run parallel along the coastline of India and some of the maximum virgin seashores meet the mountains right here. Karwar in Karnataka is so lovely, nearly oblivious of its personal beauty as it stands perched among the oceans and mountains.

The coastal plains alongside Kanyakumari, positioned within the Southern maximum tip of India also comes to my thoughts. some coastal cities in Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala are my favored haunts.

Tea or coffee or spices

The British destroyed these forests and created plantations here. and you see the mountains carpeted via tea, coffee, and spices. Even nowadays plantation tourism is one of the largest attracts. The coffee plantations of Malnad or the tea estates in Nilgiris with the spice plantations are traveler locations.

Coorg Coffee Farms

Coorg, Chikmagalur, Saklespur, Munnar, Wayanad, Valparai are some of my favourite towns. If you are planning to visit one of them I recommend the beautiful tea plantations of Munnar where you can find a slice of British charm in the estates there.

Cultural experiences

The Western Ghats can be an unbroken chain however they span different states and every place has its personal little lifestyle. fairs and traditions alternate from the vicinity to the region. There are several lores and legends right here. some destinations have their very own tribal tradition too – Nilgiris, BR Hills, Coorg.

The towns unfold across Maharashtra or Goa offer a unique cuisine from that of Kerala or Tamil Nadu. you can taste the whole thing from coastal delights to seasonal produce right here.

The forests are scrubbed well after a refreshing bath and they wear a new coat of green. The birds start beginning to sing. The waterfalls are in full flow and the rivers are smiling, coursing down the valleys.

My favourite time of the year is monsoons, or perhaps to be proper, precisely simply after the monsoons.
