Stories in the farm

A good friend invited us to her farm, close to Algeciras, neighbor to Caquetá there is a place called "El paraiso" there my friend raised her children between the violence and the war that sorrows my country for more than 5 decades ago, peasant farmers plowing the land and raising animals to survive, trying to give the best that they could give to their young men and trying harder not to let them participate in revolutionary armed groups and common crime, fortunately after too many years succesing and trying to thrive through the cultivation of tomatoes, the sale of milk, eggs, corn, coffee, cheese and other agricultural and livestock activities, they keep working hard but they are a lovely family, they told us a bunch of incredible, sad and beautiful stories in a humble place surrounded by silence, nature sounds, family love and delicious food. For three days we enjoyed hiking, participating in some farm tasks as feeding the animals and collecting and threshing the corn, after that wonderful experiencce, we started the rest of the road trip; 201 km to San Agustín Huila, our main destination.

Road trip (not so easy)

We started early in the morning, route on maps and bags tied up and feeling the cold of the morning in the face, we were traveling expecting to arrive at noon but unfortunately a part of the road was closed for a collapse so we had to take a 25 Km detour by a tertiary way going by Tarqui, a really difficult road, unpaved with dust, mud, rocks, slippery sections and other problems but beautiful landscapes and wildlife. The detour meant some hours more of road trip, but we arrived to San Agustín early, anyway there was starting to rain, so we looked for a place to spent the night, bought food and stay comfy at "Buenavista hotel" a nice place on the route to the park leaving the town, so I spend the afternoon playing hula, cuddled watching movies and talking with Hernando, the owner of the place, that offered us a horse ride and told us a lot of useful information about San Agustín.

The coolest passport

At 8:30 am we were at the archaeological park entry, with one of the most cool park passport I have ever seen, it costs us like 9 bucks each, very cheap considering that you can enter two other places with the same payment and in each place they seal the passport with a very nice dry stamp. Ready to see all the wonders, we went to Luis Duque Gomez house-museum, where we learn a little bit more about the inhabitants of the upper Magdalena, scientific researching about the place, geographic information and other interesting data.

Statues everywhere

After leaving the museum, we started walking to "El bosque de las estatuas" a journey of almost a kilometer where we could see a lot of rock statues, some of these were recovered by the archaeological park as they were in various places due to the looting of the place when it was discovered. Walking in a beautiful path full of wildlife, green and diverse and impressive monuments.
The "Mesitas A, B y C" are sites used as a housing area approximately 2,000 years ago, there are the two largest funerary mounds, 4 meters high and 30 meters in diameter, and some tombs more, all watched by "stone guardians"
This sector was the first to become a tourist attraction at the beginning of the 20th century.

Lavapatas

We kept walking until we found "la fuente de lavapatas" a set of plates carved on the bed of the brook that bears the same name. The carved channels forms silhouettes of snakes and lizards, the water flows and sounds creating a relaxing atmosphere, we took a break while we drank organic coffe (in a paper cup so it tasted horrible) but this magic place gave us peace and happiness; continuing the path we arrived to "El alto del lavapatas" a beautiful landscape with another "mesita" the clouds started to became gray so we went back to the hotel, ordered some food and rested preparing ourselves for another day full or surprises.
