Having spent a week in Lisbon, which we visited primarily for SteemFest, @hkjn and I decided to relax for a few days in Porto, the second largest city in Portugal.
It took us three hours to get there from Lisbon by train. We were surprised by how cold and windy it got in the evening, but during the day it was warm and sunny. The city is very charming and a great place for taking long walks up and down.
There were a few artists trying to capture an aspect of this city.
On our first day there, we took a long walk along the Dom Luís I bridge to the other side of the Douro river and spent some time at a cafe, enjoying beautiful views well into the sunset.
One our second day, we took a boat tour along the Douro river and went port wine tasting.
Some of these bottles are older than the United States.
Port wine or port is a fortified wine produced exclusively in the Douro valley of which Porto is the major city. It is typically sweet which can be served as a dessert wine or before a meal. Typically, they are aged a few months or a year but some can be 20, 30 or even 40 years old.
@hkjn and I tried several sorts and liked more aged and more dry port wines. Rose port was way too sweet for us, even in small quantities, but still quite pleasant.
Overall, we had a great time in Porto. Good food, good wine (including port, of course!) and lots of exploration by foot.
So cool! I'm glad you guys enjoyed Porto. It's a nice city.
and the wine... oh the wine...
nice views .
enjoy yourself, while it last
Mmm, I like Port. Must go here one day. As one of the editors for @steemitworldmap’s daily #traveldigest, I would love to see this post pop up on http://steemitworldmap.com. If you're interested, simply go to the website, click on code (down the bottom) and add a short description. It will then generate the code you need to copy and paste into your post (not the comments) to have it show up on steemit worldmap. There’s also a FAQ section if you get a bit lost.
