The village of Hogsback spreads across the crown of the plateau with the mountain peaks high above and the Tyumie river, in South Africa. It has many waterfalls from the Amatola (uMathule) mountains, flowing through the deep, indigenous forests. The mystery of the name forms part of the romance of this beautiful place of mist-wreathed forests and fantasy. There are a few resturants and bars where you can wine and dine, after long days of adventure in Hogsback.

The Hogsback labyrinth

There are 27 Waterfalls in Hogsback!! The Tyhume River, replenished by summer rain and winter snow, drops 419 metres to the valley below, affording plenty of picturesque falls. Hogsback Adventures offers a four-hour mountain bike tour past waterfalls, viewpoints and a swim in a natural pool, and abseiling down Madonna and Child, the largest waterfall. Equally pretty, and even easier to get to, is St Patrick-on-the-Hill, and Hogsback’s charming thatch- and-stone chapel. The community is friendly and warm mostly hippies, retirees, eco-warriors, artists, online entrepreneurs and people who just like to potter about, where wealth is not measured in money,
