A few days before our departure to Latin America we had our family members express concern with us going to Chile. There were full blown protests/riots in Santiago and it sounds dangerous. Did your travel agent warn you or advise you not to go? Perhaps you should postpone your travel to this city?
After some reflection our answer was 'no!' While our flights were not going to be affected by the protesters we decided why not continue with our plans to visit the lovely capital of Chile.
What we were yet to find out was that we were going to be affected by the political rioting in another way. An indirect way!.
Arriving in Santiago and on our way to the prepaid and rebooked hotel e saw graffiti on all the beautiful old buildings and people were gathering in great numbers for another planned riot. But, our hotel was locked up securely and had been for a few weeks. There was no sign and no-one answered the call our driver made.
The only option was to go to book in another hotel in a safer area of Santiago. We booked into a 5 star hotel called NH Collections.

And so our 3 day fun touristy time of checking out Santiago started. At no time did we feel unsafe, only very sorry for the terrible poverty conditions the people are in.
In order to see as much as we can in a short time we bought tickets for 'A Hop On Hop Off Red Bus.' Here are some of the sights that we saw over 3 days:

This photograph was taken at 6am:

We said goodbye to Santiago early on Monday morning after an Uber driver drove us to the airport. Our rebooked and prepaid transfer driver failed to pick us up at 6am because he went to the prebooked and prepaid hotel that was closed.
Like all journeys, it was an adventurous one but not threatening or dangerous that our caring family members thought it would be. But, I am really glad we did.
Cheers and Blessings

Glad everything worked out and you got some lovely photos too.
Thank you Redheadpei, travelling is full of unknowns isn't it? This journey so far has been exactly that and so got to go with the flow, lol.
Howdy angiemitchell! I am glad you guys went ahead with your plans too. And you still got to see much of the city? I hope their demonstrations bring about change for the better.
So do we janton, but we have been hearing that it is going to take a long time for change. It is very hard to see such poverty and terrible living standards. We count ourselves as very blessed to live in Australia.
Yes I agree, and we in America.
