Our trip to Bocas Del Toro - "Mouths of the Bull" : The unpredictable paradise

Next stop: Bocas del Toro

We ( @jrudfit and I) left very early in the morning on the 31st and planned on bringing in 2018 with my family in Isla Colon.
The fastest way to get to Isla Colon from Panama City is by airplane.
We did not take into consideration that the luggage policy might be different since it was a domestic flight. AirPanama is the only airline that flies to Isla Colon. They only allow one luggage per person and a limit of 14 kg weight….

If you are not a light packer, like myself (haha), and feel it is necessary to have all of these extras outfits then you want to pay attention to this tip when flying domestic within Panama. The best option to avoid paying a ridiculous amount for your luggage being overweight, is mailing your luggage with any mailing service, trust me it is way cheaper!!! ... like one-tenth of the cost based on how much overweight your bags are. We could've saved ourselves an easy $100 by packing a couple sets of clothes for the next couple of days while we waited for our bags to arrive on the island via mail service. (We recommend: Fletes Chavale)

The weather wasn't what we had expected for this time of the year, considering it's summer...... and unfortunately on our flight to Bocas we had to make a stop in David Chiriqui due to the inclement weather. At these times you have to make the best of the situation. We kept our spirits high, still excited to see my family and after an hour of sitting at the terminal we finally re-boarded the plane to our destination.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in Bocas del Toro and several beautiful islands to visit like: Isla Zapatilla, Isla las estrellas, Bastimentos (where you will find the beautiful Red Frog Beach).

You can go to these islands by boat or best known as “taxi lanchas” any time of the day.

The weather in Isla Colon is unpredictable! Even if it rains in the morning, there is a good chance it will clear up by the afternoon.

Our favorite beach was “Playa Bluff”

It wasn't crowed, very clean and it has some good places where you can order a bite to eat or drinks. We chose to have lunch at Yarisnori because the views from our table were so tranquil, we couldn't pass it up. "Playa Bluff" is the perfect spot to relax, enjoy the sun or even exercise a bit!

Some tips about Isla Colon?

  1. Cash! You need cash... there is only one ATM and it usually runs out of cash, especially if it is a Holiday
  2. Never plan on buying something on the island (besides food and souvenirs) It's really expensive! So bring everything you might need!
  3. You will find several good restaurants, but cooking most of your meals to save a little money might be a better option if you're on a budget. You can find groceries at the local supermarkets. It's not the easiest to find fresh vegetables, but it is possible. The supermarket that we found to have the freshest food was: Hawai

We enjoyed bringing in the new year "2018" in such a beautiful place like Bocas del Toro in Panama.
We enjoyed it so much that we stayed an extra day! (Not our fault haha... we actually had a hard time getting off of the island due to the weather and the water taxi service closing down for the day) Don't worry though there is always a plan B and that was to take the ferry out first thing in the morning the next day. It's always a good thing spending an extra day with the fam! :D )

........Our next stop: Boquete, Chiriqui (next post!)
