Andrew Travels London – Beach Blanket Babylon – Notting Hill

in #travel7 years ago

Beach Blanket Babylon is a high-end cellar restaurant and bar in Notting Hill. It’s got a terrific atmosphere and makes you feel a part of a film set. The bar feels grand with its aristocratic Rococo design and to get to the dining areas I had to walk through an oval shaped hole in the wall, leaving the grand marble behind and stepping onto a rough wooden plank bridge with chains serving as rails to the stairs. It felt like I was on a pirate ship and then in an ancient grand cellar.

Steve, a nice man at the bar, told me that when they were digging to construct the cellar at Beach Blanket Babylon, they found human bones and couldn’t remove them due to the law. So what they did was build over the gruesome discovery and add an eerie tombstone looking head by a stairwell into the cellar.
