The Eagle River in Keewenaw County, Michigan

in #travel6 years ago

Hello, steemians, and welcome to my page, eh!

This is another post with pictures from my recent camping trip to the Keewenaw peninsula in Upper Michigan. This is a visit to the Eagle River. The west branch runs along the south side of the escarpment from east of the Cliff mine location to Phoenix and the east branch runs along the south side of the escarpment from the Central mine location to meet the west branch, and then through a gap in the escarpment and down the north side of the hill to the town of Eagle River, where it runs into Lake Superior.

The first pictures I have are from the Phoenix area, just upstream from where the river runs under the road at the junction of US 41 and M26. The Eagle River has 3 branches that meet in this area before it runs down the hill to the lake.
This is where the west branch and the middle branch come together. This is looking west.

Just down the river, there are more gravel bars.

Beyond this point, the river runs under highway M26, meets with the east branch, and turns to run down the hill to the lake. Highway M26 more or less follows the river down the hill into the town of Eagle River. About half way down the hill, there's a place to pull off the road and park. The river is just off the road at this spot. I stopped and took some pictures here also. There is a series of rapids and a low waterfall at this location.

Very Cool. We are Trolls (from under the bridge). Do tons of kayaking on the AuSable and Rifle Rivers down here. Good to see a fellow Michigander adventuring.

Thank you!
I've been trying to get out and do more things this summer, I had not done much for the past couple of years.

Gorgeous! I'll have to check out Michigan one day. My mother was born there, but I've never visited.

Thank you!
There's certainly enough different places to visit in Michigan!

this is breathtaking! i hope you do more posts like this!

Thank you!
I'm trying to branch out a bit in my postings, a person can only do so many garden posts before it gets really repetitive... :-)

me too, i'm trying to learn how to create and upload videos for dtube so i can start to go on walks and trips to places and make things. hahaha

That's a good plan!
