Many times when you are thinking of the Greek islands, beaches and white houses are coming to your mind. But the capital town of the Cycladic islands called Ermoupoli is a bit different than the other Greek islands. Ermoupoli has many cultural treasures that are worth experiencing.
I had the luck to go for a walk there and watch a town build from the coexistence of Greeks and Italians. The Venetian building style is very present in Ermoupoli.
In the middle of the Greek-Italian marriage you have the town hall that is build by the German architect Ernest Ziller.
Let's have a look at this multi-cultural architecture.
The two first photos are from the Saint Nicholas church. Despite being an orthodox church it reminded me to something more catholic, especially with the view behind the church.
Right next to the church you find a view that takes you directly to Venice with the buildings being built right next to the sea.
In case you enjoy that view then there is one restaurant that provided a wonderful scenery for a great dinner.
The restaurant did by the way have an impressive entrance!
Around 700 meters away from these photos you find the central square of Ermoupoli with it's unique town hall.
Here is another one taken in the night.
My walks in Ermoupoli did also make the way to the small cozy streets of Ermoupoli where I had a lovely dinner.
In case you don't like to many people around you then it is good to leave around 22:00 in the evening, where the small Tavernas are extremely crowded.
The last photo I will present for you is from the ferry boat when I left Syros and the beautiful town of Ermoupoli.
