Traveling can be an unbelievably exciting experience, but a bit scary if it’s your first time. Traveling by air and other means of transportation may seem like a daunting task, you ask yourself questions like; where do I buy a ticket? What do I do when I get to the airport? Do I really need identification? And a stream of unending questions follows. To make the trip less stressful it will be helpful to have an idea of things to expect.

Purchase a ticket

One of the easiest ways to do this is to search multiple dates and flight times and destination online. Purchasing tickets online using airfare search engines can be a big plus because they give a broad idea of fares, using these platforms, It lets you enter your departure city, arrival city and dates and the search engines will return a range of flights.

And whenever you are ready to purchase your flight ticket, click on it to select, following the instructions that proceed. At the end the airline company will send you an email confirmation and e-ticket number, these numbers should be written down for reference.

Photo Identification

Gather your photo identification and put these in a carry-on bag that should be close to you at all times, if you are travelling from your host country, you’ll need a passport usually one that is valid for six months from the date of departure.

Luggage issues

Ensure your luggage meets the airline requirements, and depending on the airliner, you may be allowed to bring one carry-on item and one personal item, such as a laptop or purse. You can access this information by visiting the airline’s website. Under the travel information tab. pay attention to fees for checked bags.

Arrival

As a first timer, it is advised to arrive at the airport early, this gives you extra time to make it through the airport procedures and familiarize yourself with the process. If you arrive in your car and will be parking, check into the long-term lot for multiday stays; some airports have shuttles to the terminal if the lot is not within walking distance. Give yourself enough time, two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight.

Checking-In

Check-in at the airline desk, follow the signs to the check-in desks and have your photo identification ready to present to the agent. Go through the security, follow signs for security and head to the line. It’s at the security point you will be asked to present your identification and boarding pass.
