We're going to be doing a lot of Jeeping and Glamping over summer so we've decided to start a series and this will be the first post in that series :)
First of all, this is the route we ended up taking. A lot of 4WDing and forest tracks along the way.
Glamping requires a lot of gear. The tent weighs 40+kg, and we take 22l of water, a spare 20l of fuel + clothes, food and furniture. It's not easy to fit all of this into the little Jeep. Thankfully everything kind of fits together like a game of tetris.
We hit the road late Friday afternoon. It was a long drive and a hot day. We took the risk and went full convertible, leaving the soft top at home.
Our destination was Jamieson but we were pushing our luck to get there on time. We didn't get many photos on the way there because we were in such a hurry.
Being Australia, here are always kangaroos on the road at dusk. It's hard to capture them because they move quick. (Our first attempt at DTube, what an awesome application!).
We set up our campsite when the sun was setting, made dinner then went straight to sleep. This photo is at sunrise.
There was frost covering the grass when I first woke up. Strange considering it was 33 degrees the day before.
The campsite was hard to get to (wouldn't recommend it in a 2WD due to the steep entrance), so there weren't a lot of people here.
She loved exploring by the riverside. There was a big snake here hidden in the rocks. One has to be careful of that out here.
We had an early breakfast at a cafe in Jamieson. Great food and a stunning morning.
We found some people tubing in a river and tried to find out how they were getting down there. This was one of the paths we followed but we came to a dead end.
Later we drove towards Lake Eildon. Unfortunately along the way the brakes overheated, as it's a mountainous area with lots of curvy roads and also a hot day. Took a while to figure out what was wrong. We poured water on the brakes and sure enough they sizzled like a fry pan. So we drove to a river where there was cold water and 6l later the brake had returned to normal.
We never actually made it to Eildon, we had to turn back after the car issues. Instead we lit a fire and chilled at the campsite.
!
We have a candle-lit chandelier in our glamping tent. Really great feature to have.
The next day we started heading home. This was a gravel road for the most part, through national parks and state forests. Also we crossed the Great Dividing Range. There was hardly anyone else out here, I think we saw 2 cars (one of them another Jeep).
You can see a lot of bushfire damage in this forest. We were a little bit worried as it was such warm weather.
We stopped for lunch at a cafe in Marysville. This parrot stopped to say hi so we shared a potato chip.
The road out of Marysville is one of the best in Victoria, especially for motorcyclists. It's like this the whole way.

Now we're doing some restoration work to the Jeep to make it look a bit nicer. We'll have some trips coming up soon so be sure to follow us if you like this stuff!

What makes glamping glamping? I mean... real, what is it ? ty
Glamorous + Camping = Glamping :)
omg... what a topsy turvy world... my dad would faint straight away (-:
Oh man this is so good! I just got back from a trip to Sydney / Katoomba / Brisbane and I had heard a lot of people say that Melbourne was beautiful. This really looks amazing. I love the photo of the friendly bird! We spent a night at Booderee Ntnl. Park, and I was amazed at all the bright red, green, and yellow parrots flying around and how friendly they were.
This really makes me want to head back to Australia, and check out Melbourne. Thanks for sharing.
That sounds awesome, we plan to drive up to QLD at some point in the future, lots of good 4x4 up there. If you do come to Melbourne give us a bell!
What an amazing journey! I am considering a long jeep journey myself, (to Mexico and Central America), and am running into space issues as well.
Your photography is wonderful, so green, the forests look very similar to the ones in the northwest US. I wouldn't have expected that.
Hey that's cool, I am thinking of doing something similar. Did South America by motorcycle a few years ago however would love to buy a Jeep in the USA and make my way back down there. Are you going to blog your trip? I'd love to follow along to see how you go.
In the southern states of Australia it's mostly green, at least for the last couple of years. We have a redwood forest like California actually, planning to get out there soon.
Yes I will be sharing my travels. I'm traveling around the Southwestern U S now, and have posted multiple blogs about it here on steemit.
Awesome, following you now!
Can I tag along ...
If you're in the area of course! I'm installing back seats into the Jeep this week :)
Wow...would love to get a caravan and up and go around Australia (we live in sydney). One day i am hoping.
You can get an older caravan very cheap, I think it would be a great idea, we're going to do Australia at some point but in the Jeep so we can't tow a caravan but we will probably camp + AirBnB the whole way.
I would have to get more of a motor home as i dont think i would be able to tow. Australia is so expensive i think it is the only way we would be able to explore the country we live in. Goodluck on ur travels and hope it is amazing
Your experience is wonderful ♪
Nice picture! Nice post!
Cheers to the outdoors!
Never been to Australia but would love to visit. My favorite pic was the one near the end. The tall trees and the road. It looks super chill and peaceful.
@adventurerider I can only assume it has been a long, beautiful journey! On to the next one!
Already planning for it!
@adventurerider I wish you safety and a clear road!
Ahhhhhhhggg
Allow me to envy you
Ah, this is inspiring. I've been glamping and vanlifing for a couple years now. Starting to feel like I should post about it.
I love camping! Not so sure about having a flame in the tent though. Sounds pretty dangerous to me.
It's okay, this tent is designed for it! Somewhat flame retardant :)

I love that your doggie got to go on the adventure with you. Fun times!
Nice recounting! This sounds like an awesome project! If you're looking to expand your audience - you could consider publishing to GoHobo as well! Full disclosure - this is my own project, but we would love to publish (or republish) your adventures and help you get the word out!
Im not quite sure you will get this reference but to all #gamers out there, did this remind you of the PUBG map at first glance on the thumbnail picture? Lol Awesome Journey btw @adventurerider
I love adventure traveling stories so much. It always keep the "flame" of adventure alive while I'm planning mine. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Would love to hear any tips and stuff you learned during your trip.
'The road goes on forever, and the party never ends!'
Really diggin' that full size tent... awesome! Followed.
Awesome post! It doesn't seem to me like y'all are glamping though! This looks like standard car-camping to me. What about your setup do you find glamorous?
A very nice and adventurous travel, I would really like to know more on how the journey went. Please make sure you stay safe and follow back. Upvoted and replicate it back.
