The Harbour of Rio de Janeiro also known as Guanabara Bay is located in Brazil, South America.

• A bay is a recessed, coastal body of water that directly connects to a larger main body of water, such as an ocean, lake, or another bay.

• The Guanabara Bay is the World’s Largest Bay spanning 28km East to West, 30km North to South and then 32km inland.

• The harbor is surrounded by gorgeous granite monolith Mountains such as Sugar Loaf Mountain, Corcovado Peak, Hills of Tijuca. These Mountains are made of hard granite rocks and softer rocks called Gneiss which are more easily eroded. This is why the mountains are steeply sided.
• There are also 130 Islands including Governor’s Island, Fundao Island, Snakes Island surrounding the Harbour.

• On Mount Corcovado is the one of the World’s famous monuments, the 98ft tall Christ the Redeemer.
