RE: Finally I hiked the mountain top I've been looking at for 4 years!

Very well done! Congratulations that you finally made it to the summit! Oh yes, that is worth reaching because of the magnificent view from the top. And how cool is that when you look down to a sea of clouds when you are not on a plane. It sounds very refreshing and relaxing.

How long in total did it take you to reach the top from your starting point?

Sort:

thank you! It took us about two hours (normal time is 1½ hour, apparently, but I'm not that fast XD) Then we spend almost an hour on the top, just enjoying the view and eating the food we brought!

Yes, I can imagine it will be very cool to have picnic on top. If I were you, I may even have stayed longer for as long as the weather is favorable. :)

I suppose the descend was faster? Or did you take it more leisurely in going down?

the descend was definitely faster, but hard on the knees..! Yes my dream was kind of to watch the sunset up there, since that was what I admired from the house, but descending in the dark wouldn't be too good an idea! Maybe spending the night there, but it probably gets freezing at night, and I don't think pitching a tent is legal - though no one would probably notice! Maybe that will be the next goal! Then we could watch the sunrise too!

An overnight camping! Yes, that sounds so interesting. I wonder why putting up a tent will be illegal. Isn't that a common hiking destination that the local authoritirs may already know and allow camping?

How about safety at night? Won't there be any wild animals out there to be scared of?

It's not allowed to camp in the wild in Italy, just at assigned spots, unfortunately.. but I don't think anyone would make a fuss about it :P wolves and bears occasionally roam these parts, but haven't been seen for a while as far as I know..! But better check first if they are around!

For as long as there are no nearby private properties then I guess you are correct, no one will fuss about it. But yes, you better check those wild animals first. Better be safe than sorry. :)
