The Ministry of tourism and sports in Thailand said the number of Chinese travellers in the second half of the year is expected to decrease by more than 600 thousand due to the death of 47 Chinese tourists due to the sinking of the Phuket Island "phoenix" cruise ship.
According to reports, the Thailand tourism and sports ministry, in a statement provided to the media, reduced the number of Chinese passengers to visit Thailand from July to December by nearly 670 thousand to 5 million 100 thousand.
"The reason for the drop in the number of Chinese passengers is dissatisfaction with the shipwreck, which has a direct impact on the tour group," the statement said. The statement said that the number of Chinese tourists arriving in August is expected to decrease by 60%.
On the afternoon of July 5, 2018, two ships carrying 127 Chinese tourists were on their way back to Phuket Island, and the overstorm occurred in the Coral Island and metong Island, causing 47 Chinese tourists to die.
