Flying on by

in #thoughts6 years ago

The last few years have gone by in a blink of an eye add they don't seem to be slowing down any time soon. Time is relative to experience of time of course and I think that my personal lack of time supports a higher willingness to think long-term because from my position, a year or two is never that far away.

I was talking to one of my brothers just before and I asked if he had been trading lately, which he hadn't. I said that perhaps he should take some of his coins off the marketplace, cold store it a few years and just forget about it. A few years seems like a long time for many people to wait, it is not.

Ask any parent about how quickly their children have gone from helpless infant, to robust toddler, to angsty teenager, to adult and what is decades becomes a very short timeframe. A couple years holding some crypto is nothing.

But it isn't hold and wait for a chance of it to appreciate, that is a false dichotomy. Waiting in one area doesn't mean that one must be passive in all others, there is always stuff that can be done in the meantime which is essentially, hedging bets. If crypto doesn't work out long-term, that is okay because that wasn't the only investment made.

I was saying to my brother that due to circumstances, I am doing about a 80 hour week for my two main jobs and when he asked about my writing, I said I continue on, albeit slightly slower. While the work allows me to cover costs, I am hedging bets with Steem.

I find it pretty extraordinary that I am able to do something I enjoy and still use it as an investment vehicle that could pan out very well in time. Or go to nothing. In the case of going to nothing though, I still have the other hedge of work and my business to utilise. It is a pretty amazing opportunity to have access to and in my opinion, definitely worth putting my time and energy into it.

I have been Steeming along for almost two years now and it has passed by incredibly fast. Again, this sense of speed is likely due to the amount of activity in other areas as well as the volume here as essentially, I have zero time to spare. It isn't a lifestyle for everyone though and while I can do it now, it isn't something I want to do forever in the same way.

This is why I am more holder than spender. I have been a spender most of my life and it has left me in a position where I have to work two jobs to cover bills, at least for the time being while my wife studies. If I had been less of a consumer and more of a patient and consistent investor in the past, life would look very different from many perspectives.

When it comes to investing, I believe consistency is key and although there will be times.of unusual fortunes, on average slow growth will yield long-term rewards. The slow growth also has an effect on personal habits and understanding.

It is kind of like losing weight, it is possible to do it very fast but the likelihood of keeping it off is slim to none. A steady process of weight loss will develop a much more maintainable condition as personal behaviours grow to support a healthier lifestyle. It takes time though and many seem to want a quick fix solution, even if it can't be sustained and will soon leave them in the same condition.

I am trying to lose weight. The weight of debt. The weight of constantly having to chase and, constantly run from. While it seems counterintuitive to many, in my opinion, work has to be put in in order to have a lifestyle where work is empowering rather than a symptom of poor decisions. I love working, I don't love all work.

Given a lifestyle where all of my work tasks are voluntary, much of what I do would continue and one of those things would definitely be writing. I count myself lucky that my work now includes this and has a chance to give me the space to do more of it in the future.

As said, an absolutely amazing opportunity and something worth working for, even if it doesn't eventuate as planned.

I am very lucky that I enjoy writing like this. What most people don't know about me is, I didn't write much before Steem at all.

One day I do hope to not have a regular job, I will continue to work forever though :)

I have always thought similarly about hedging which is also why I have so many different investments and approaches. I try to see it as a ventura capital businesses as most will not succeed, other will just survive but there is potential for one to really thrive and change your life. Fortunately for me, my success has come from my profession but I am sure that it is not sustainable long term which is why I continue to hedge to find more a sustainable future. In the meantime, also seeking to be less reliant on thr spending and debt.

I have made some terrible career decisions but good experience ones. At the moment though, I have a lot of economic catch up to do hoping that the experiences learned can be leveraged.

I do not like to comment on long posts ... he has included a lot of important things in his own and, for a good reason, he could be discussed for a long time. It's nice that you have a family and you like to work. The shoulder of time only testifies to poor organization of work, so do not complain. In everything you wrote, I do not see the purpose for which you do it ... take care of health and family because it is the most important in life, not money. Thank you for the post I read with curiosity and I will be looking at you ... a post worth voting and reproaching. @aple

You don't need my purpose, you need your own only.

take care of health and family because it is the most important in life, not money.

When it comes to taking care of health and family, money is a pretty vital component in this day and age. Of course, you might be lucky to have good health to begin with and may not understand that not everyone has that gift provided them.

You don't need my purpose, you need your own only.

Each of us is different and everyone has different goals, my are different from yours. It's hard to write down one sentence for such a long text ... it would be a long discussion .... thank you once thank you very much for the blog

I've got some bad new for you, matey...(When I was busy, I thought the same)
Now I'm not busy - time is going quicker! Pesky time.

I think it's something more to do with how many breaths we have left....time speeds up..
Soz...lol

Now I'm not busy - time is going quicker! Pesky time.

Time wasted goes the fastest of all. ;)

I think it's something more to do with how many breaths we have left....time speeds up..

This is kind of true. It is actually how far we are from the time we took our first breath. For a two year old, 1 year more is 50% of life. For a 50 year old, 1 year more is 2% of life. The experience held by each in memory will understand that same year differently and looking back, 2% is not much considering how much has happened.

I moved most of my crypto to Steem. I wanted to do some staking, but find delegating is a much easier passive form of income.

I know what you mean about time flying by. 5 year plans at work used to seem so far out and now 5 years seems to pass as quick as 1 year did. My wife was just commenting its hard to believe the first month of 2019 is almost gone.

Steem is definitely my speculative game as well. The only change Im making this time is selling some on the way up and trying to catch less of the falling knife. As Ive discovered you have plenty of time to catch the bottom in a bear market.

Yeap, this bear is going to be the longest so far I think. Mostof my time in crypto has been during bear markets :D

Hey tarazkp, I wasnt here for quite a while. Have you been active the whole time here? How has Steemit changed? positive?

I have been 'pretty' active.

There are pro's and con's in every system and I would say that a con has been the introduction of the bidbots but, that is what it is. The major pros are of course the increasing amount of applications that are utilising the blockchain, the increasing amount of smaller investors who have used the low prices to power up, the introduction of Resource Credits that have cut spam down heavily and will offer a lot of flexibility, the recent reduction in costs to run a node, the waking up of the community to taking responsibility and the realisation that this is much more than a blogging site.

Overall, I am enjoying my time here more now than when I started as I have spent time digging into the community more and being involved on and off chain in various ways.

Yes you are rightm....

That speech "This is why I am more holder than spender"
appreciate 👌
