That's an incredible piece of writing, such a moving story as well. A loving testament to a much loved companion, it is sad and quite terrible what came to be, but you can solace in the good times you shared and gave Spinkles.

It was hard to relive it all, but overall, I am so glad that he came into my life, and we had SUCH a good time with him. And Joan was glad that I adopted him, as we gave him so many experiences that he wouldn't have had otherwise.
He was a sweetheart, through and through, and what happened, while hard, was just his way of acknowledging that he was ready to move forward.
Far more so than was I , as I hated letting him go, but I also knew that I could no longer live with him, after what had happened.
At the very least, he would have been shut out of the bedroom, and that would have been miserable for him.
RIP Sprinkles. You are still very much loved and missed.
