To celebrate the Buddhist New Year, Thailand’s crazy Songkran water festival is held every year from the 13 to 15th in most of the country, though Pattaya has a longer festival, lasting until 19 April. Although it’s the hottest time and most humid of the year, Songkran is a fantastic time to be in Thailand: the ever-present water fights will cool you down, and the outrageously happy Thais will melt your heart.
Picture tens of thousands of men, women, and children roaming the streets armed with squirt guns, water cannons, and buckets of icy cold water searching for their next victim. No one is safe from their wrath. If you’re dry, you won’t stay for long!
