A THIEFrepreneur is a word I just made up. Half THIEF and half ENTREPRENEUR. (Some would claim there's no such thing - there's either a THIEF or an ENTREPRENEUR - I'd tend to agree - but enjoy anyway)

Elon Musk is a THIEFrepreneur - here's 3 reasons why...

#1 - Tesla's sales and manufacturing are heavily subsidized. Do you know what "subsidized" means? His projects do not stand on their own merits - thus he uses taxpayers money to create wealth for himself while sucking involuntary taxpayers dry.

#2 - Believe it or not, Tesla does not make money selling cars. It actually makes money by selling "carbon credits" to real car companies - that are not "zero emissions". Tesla cars aren't "zero emissions" either (especially when you account for the hidden cost of the emissions produced by the utility plants that provide electricity) but laws require automakers to sell a certain number of "zero emissions" vehicles or be fined... (think about how insane that is) - so they turn to Tesla to buy carbon credits. Guess how much revenue Tesla "earns" using this tactic? About $517,000,000 a year. (Why isn't there a law that provides you with those types of sweetheart deals?)

#3 - Did you know Tesla got $1.3 billion in sweet heart crony-capitalist “incentives” from Nevada to build its battery factory there? Included in this deal is NO PROPERTY TAXES for the next 20 years. And don't forget the $195 million in transferable tax credits – which Tesla could sell for cash.

But... but... but he's a BILLIONAIRE!! He provides value that others can't. Well - why exactly is that?

He relies on the coercive power of the government to pay for his projects. Why can't he go find private investors without using taxpayer dollars?

Elon Musk succeeds not because he is a creator - what does he create of value on his companies own merits without being "subsidized"? He's learned how to manipulate the system for his benefit at the expense of the common taxpayer.

Vultures would be proud. In June 2017, Elon Musk stands alone atop Mount THIEFrepreneur.

The next time you look at your sales tax receipt, property tax receipt or even gas tax receipt - ask yourself - how much of that money is going to Tesla?

Sort:

It is said that Africa leaders are corrupt and that they loot public funds and warehouse those funds in developed countries around the world. But looking at it from another perspective what about those developed countries whose government are their cronies who take this so called stolen funds and use it for their economy and vehemently refuse to return such funds.

That being said @chuckypita I respect your views but I still thinks he is a very smart and visionary person.
If the government don't allow the tax payers money indirectly there is no way he could explore that option. And it is the government prerogative to protect tax payers money. If the government do the needful then things would be done right.

Furthermore I see you have good information as regards the carbon credits, I do not have any facts to either support or disprove your claims. In conclusion criticism are good because it helps us to define the ideals that should define our society at large.

He's a crony capitalist.... part of me is like, "Hey, good for you Elon for gaming the system...." but the other part of me is like - "this system needs to get fixed."

Bingo. Been saying this for years. The past 8 years have made Musk billions. Mr. Musk is a brilliant inventor and engineer, he is definitely using the system to his advantage though.

Can't stand that laws and regulations benefit a guy like him yet hinder hundreds of thousands of honest entrepreneurs...
