US Navy using XBox 360 Controllers for submarines

The US Navy is replacing $38,000 hand grip system to control periscope with $20 Xbox controllers. Previously it would take hours to learn to use the system but with an Xbox controller, it is down to minutes.

I can go to any video game store and procure an Xbox controller anywhere in the world, so it makes a very easy replacement - Senior Chief Mark Eichenlaub

The new controller was first added to the USS Colorado which began it's duty last November. The USS Colorado is a more modern version of the Seawolf-class submarine from the 1990's.

Makes it a bit easier to hack because the technology is more widely available...does it not?

Meanwhile, at Portugal, we tie strings to our bullets to pull them back when we fire as to save ammo.

Hahahahaha

Made in China

Talk about top notch management, adaptability and following trends and good tech, then this is it.

The xbox controller will be adaptable and easy to use tho.
My only problem is all of them turning to gamers lol.

Don't wanna hear or read in the news that somebody modified periscope, installed some badass game, played it and failed to monitor the ship and got it wrecked.. 😂😂😂😂

Thanks for sharing and

my boss that's True though
But it's really funny
Lol

The world has gone digital already so not surprising. ..nice development though

управлять контроллером действительно дегче м интересней. думаю подобные эксперементы не посешали бы в других областях

Now if the controls break, “I can go to any video game store and procure an Xbox controller anywhere in the world, so it makes a very easy replacement,”

post steady @themarkymark

now THAT is Effictive!
saving money and making it easier, win/win for everyone!

MAKES SENSE. IT'S NOT A SMART CONTROL AND CAN IN NO WAY BE TAMPERED WITH BY AI.

I like it...

Hey Mark, I've just finished writing my first post. https://steemit.com/haejin/@robbie222/my-view-on-haejin-an-unbiased-opinion-new-followers-should-read-this-before-investing

Take a look and if you think it's worth let me know which is the best way to get it seen as I am still not confident I fully understand how this platform works.

I really like moves like this, itreveals that originality still exists in people

Been so many years since I’ve even been near a gaming control. I just hope they have solved gamer thumb that was caused by endless using those darn things!

I guess if they lose they can’t toss the control out of anger so no need for a few replacements…

Haha, genious. Everyone would have thought they engineered their own controller, but having an easily replaceable one makes sense!
Upvoted and followed mate, in the meantime, shall you be interested, here's my new VR gameplay at: https://steemit.com/dlive/@crypto3d/e529a6d0-fc43-11e7-820d-57dcbb6f8901

Does this mean we can use the old periscope controls to play video games?

Simplifying and cost cutting? Hopefully it starts a trend.

What a trip, lol.

I'd make a good soldier of the future if gaming controllers take over the battlefield. This was a interesting little read. Thank you

Can you imagine having known that NASA would use an Xbox control would not have been a dentist haha

Hi nasa, who's using a dentist?

A pretty fun idea
