Perhaps we are few who actually look at it and its importance, but undoubtedly its proper functioning is super important for a person to live the way they are expected to live. The brain is defined as a nerve center constitutive of the brain and is located in the anterior and superior part of the cranial cavity.
It's a pretty formal definition, however, what should you know about the brain?
Apart from its location, we must know that it shelters emotions, memories and knowledge; but since that is not enough then I will present 7 things you should know about this important central organ:
The human brain weighs 1,400 grams, and about 25% of the calories we consume daily are destined to feed it, which is why the excellent diet we should have.
In an investigation carried out in the United States, it was discovered that the signals that are generated in the brain when a person succeeds or fails are not processed in a restricted area of the cerebral cortex. Neural connections in these cases extend virtually throughout the brain, that is, success or failure put it to work.
When we are awake our brain consumes an amount of electricity equivalent to what would be needed to light a low-voltage bulb, specifically 25 watts, is really impressive.
If we want to recognize a face, your brain is fixed first in the eyes of the person in front of you, and then in the shape of the mouth and nose, according to a recent study carried out at the University of Barcelona.
The human brain is able to adapt to the unexpected thanks to the fact that it has a network of neurons that makes predictions about the world around us and, in addition, monitors how accurate those predictions are. The core of this network is located in the so-called orbitofrontal cortex, a brain area located above the eyes, thus preparing us for disappointment.
Throughout life the adult brain continues to generate neurons and this process is known as neurogenesis, and occurs mainly in the hippocampus, a brain region linked to memory and learning.
Our brain accompanies us in pain and in pleasure. The brain has mirror neurons, which produce a phenomenon, which is called in the theater as catharsis. A procedure by which our senses and perception come into resonance which allows us to sympathize and identify with the suffering or pleasure of others
This is friends, our brain is a complex system, which in its interior still hides various mysteries, but what a fact is that your health is necessary for a person to live. Therefore, take care of it with a balanced diet and daily exercise.
Very nice write-up, the brain is an amazing thing! One area of study I enjoy in particular is looking at the evolution of our brain, in the context of the survival mechanisms key to it's development, over spans of thousands of years.
Anyway, great post, very much enjoyed :)
The truth is that we will never stop being surprised by the capacities he has, I am sure that we will continue to know about his evolution. I'm glad you enjoyed it, blessings =D
