Retro Atari console changes its name, device controllers are revealed

Atari is very economical in revealing information about his upcoming console known so far as Ataribox. The equipment was revealed last summer and we still know relatively little about it, the displacement of the premiere and the lack of disclosure of any games somewhat cool our enthusiasm, and the latest information from the manufacturer still does not provide answers to the most important questions.

Let's start with the fact that Ataribox was renamed Atari VCS (short for Video Computer System), which is obviously a reference to Atari 2600, which before November 1982 was known as Atari Video Computer System. In addition, the new console also stylistically refers to this classic. On the occasion of GDC, the manufacturer will also present the controllers that will be included in the set, ie a classic joystick and a modern gamepad.

The creators, however, are still silent about the set of games that will hit the equipment, praising only "a ton of pre-designed classic titles from Atari", but also support for modern productions. We still do not know the exact device specification and only the presence of APU from AMD and the Linux system has been confirmed. we will also find an HDMI output, USB ports, Ethernet support for WiFi and SD card slot.

The producer promises that the advance sale will start in April and then we will also know the price (he previously mentioned the amount of USD 250-300) and the date of release (at the end of last year, spring was promised). We are still keeping our fingers crossed for this project, but until we know the details, it is worth keeping a bit of distance to the Atari VCS.
