In case anyone comes looking for a BKF file recovery tool i finally went with Kernel for BKF and am happy to report i worked a treat; wish i had have save my time in the first place.

Also in case it is helpful Kernel also have a Free EDB Viewer which lets you view the contents of the EDB, you cannot restore items but it reconstructs all mailboxes, folders, items (mail, contacts calendar).
