When I take a look at how much has changed in the world during my lifetime alone, I can’t help but marvel at the pace of advancements in technology that we are witnessing.
Seriously, just take a moment and look back at the time when you were a child and how general life used to be back then and contrast to what it is now. You will notice a world of difference.
We are always so busy with your eyes on the future that we seldom take the time to consider how far we have already come and boy, have we come far! When I was a child, the internet was still not mainstream in my country and even in many of the developed nations and look at how it has changed the world today.
None of the areas that we have put our minds to have remained unchanged. Take medical science for example. Things that seemed impossible are taken for granted today! We are increasingly assuming more control of our health, life expectancy and quality of living thanks to so many medical breakthroughs.
Artificial Organs To Make Organ Transplant Obsolete
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people go through a transplant surgery where the organs of a different person are placed into their body, which saves their lives. But more recently, there has been a major shortage of organs and so many people lose their lives waiting for an organ.
The thing is, most of the times, for an organ to be available, the organ donor has to die, especially for organs like the heart. But due to better medical facilities these days, people’s life expectancy are much higher than before and so the organs are not available on time.
Also, due to advancements in other fields, like self driving cars, road accidents will increasingly become a thing of the past, which is a major reason people lose their lives today and hence their organs become available.
Therefore, scientists have been hard at work for a long time to be able to print the organs that are needed, as and when required so there is simply no waiting. They’re trying to make it as easy as simply buying medicines!
If they have their way, we could see organ transplants become obsolete in just six years as the technology is already here and is being refined for manufacturing more complex organs like the heart and kidneys.
Artificial Organs That Can Be Manufactured
So, by now you must be wondering which organs we can manufacture artificially. Well, there are many ways scientists are exploring to grow these organs. One way is by the way of using stem cells to grow organs in a lab which is showing promising results lately.
The other one is 3D bioprinting. Yes, it is a variant of 3D printing which is yet another revolutionary technology set to change the world in the future. Anyways, scientists are able to print the organs using the particular cell type in a three dimensional shape.
Right now they have been able to print functional human skin, thyroid gland, tibia and also a patch of beating heart cells (not the entire heart), blood vessels and bladder.
In the coming decades (most optimistic predictions say six years), we will be able to print more complex organs like the heart, kidney, liver and pancreas.
Can you imagine a future where for one person to survive, another need not die? A future where if your organ fails, you won’t fear losing your life because you would simply be able to ‘order’ a new one? Right now this might seem to futuristic, but technology has a way of bringing the future to now, really quickly.
Actually the more correct term is Donor organ transplant will become obsolete trough the use of these new bio-technology
However i imagine the concept of future bio-tech where a person can regenerate everything in just a sec
Yes, that is the correct term indeed and yes, I think we will one day be able to regenerate it ourselves within minutes but that is a more distant future.
Thank you and wish you a happy day
Thanks!
Hello @sauravrungta
I'd love to wake up someday, get myself drunk giving no worries about my kidney or smoke without worrying about my lungs frying.
Cause I can order another on amazon. 😂
It's amazing how technology have evolved over the years.
haha, this might one day be a reality!! :D
terimakasih, telah mendapatkan sesuatu yang baru dan salut atas keorsinilan cerita ini semoga bermanfaat, agar hidup ini lebih berguna dan bemannfaat bagi sesama
I am sorry I don't understand.
3d printers enable us to create almost every impossible thing like artificial heart. With this technology a lot of patient will be cured. Thanks for this good work .
Yeah, a lot of lives will be saved due to this.
But , I think just Rich guys lives will be saved . Poors will continue to die because of poverty
I think, with technology, the general trend as always been that initially, the costs are high, but after that they gradually decline.
I hope you can be right my friend
Hi! I featured this post in my article, Top 3 things that get attention on Steemit :)
https://steemit.com/steem/@dfrankle/top-3-things-that-get-attention-on-steemit
Check it out!
Thank you :)
with the advent of 3d printers, our society has made a big step forward ... I believe that in the near future thanks to new technologies, humanity can easily replace any organs and limbs, create them a quality biomechanical replacement ..
That is exactly what is going to happen :)
Cool article. shared :d
Thank you :)
I strongly believe that organ transplants are going to be obsolete. And it would be better for all of us. Thanks for sharing :)
Yeah, it will solve a lot of major problems!
Yes I think this can be achieved after further and tireless research on Genetic Engineering(Breeding),through Binary Cloning.
Scientists say that it will be achieved in 6 years. That means it will happen within our lifetime.
yes we can imagine such a future but lets see; every technology comes with its prize. Have you seen the movie 'Island' where they basically use cloning; though bioprinting is different but in future it might have its own ethical issues.
the recent three parent baby was also under the radar of future ethical disgrace. so lets see how far these technologies help us or i may say how far they are uncorrupt.
I don't think printing organs is going to come with a price. It saves lives, doesn't require one person to die for the other one to live and it will also destroy the black market for organs. Thousands of people's organs are stolen every year, especially in the third world countries. All of that will be solved due to this.
Our current realities were stuffs of science fiction and movies.
The future will be very interesting.
Yes, the fiction of today is the science of tomorrow :)
Technology did advanced in every field...i rember heard of "stent" long back i was amazed to know what it does...it is inserted into arteiry and helps in smooth flowing of blood in vessels and help in removing / funtioning of clogged arteiry.......growing artificial organs is just a step ahead in medical world...
The advancement did started long, but we humans never bothered of that unless and untill we needed to get taste of it.
Good to know where we r actually heading to...from robotic citizen Sofia to AI to AO....let see who lives and who survives....@sauravrungta good to bring this up👌 ....people needed to be kept updated👍☺resteeming it.....👍
Agreed! Thanks for reading :)
Unfortunately, I don't think this will be viable in the long run due to eventual rejection from the body. Nevertheless, the fact that we can perform such surgery is incredible!
I am sure they will solve the rejection problem by utilizing the person's own stem cells somehow. Everything is a step by step process :)
While I agree, it will take quite a while!
