Most modern computers now have USB 3.0 or 3.1 ports. Using a USB 3 hub will allow you to get the best performance out of your devices. Being honest though, it is typically hard drives and flash card readers that would benefit from USB 3.x.

That's insanely cheap and super useful. Unfortunately, it is specifically targeted to laptops as it has a very short cord (8") ideal for portal devices.

Laptop devices typically have very few USB ports these days and a hub like this is perfect for when you use a laptop as a desktop device without a real docking station.

If you want to use this for a desktop computer, you can get a 3.3 foot extension USB cable for around $5.50 shipped.

Although if you primarily want a USB hub for a desktop, there are better options that I think are better suited for it. Primarily more ports, better ergonomics, and IQ charging ports. For example the 10 Port 60W Data Hub.
