Initial reports had the Venom F5 powered by a completely bespoke and proprietary 7.4 L twin-turbocharged V8 engine, later it was revealed that while being still in development, the engine is to have an even larger capacity of 8.0 liters.
The engine is estimated to produce 1,600 hp (1,193 kW; 1,622 PS) and 1,300 lb⋅ft (1,763 N⋅m) of torque. Pennzoil and Shell are partners with Hennessey to help fund the 301 mph (484 km/h) record attempt. The top speed is claimed to be 301 mph (484 km/h) through a V-MAX speed-tracking system. Hennessey predicts the car will perform 0–186 mph (0–300 km/h) in a time of under 10 seconds and a 0–249 mph (0–400 km/h) time of under 20 seconds.
The Hennessey team is developing an all new, twin turbo V8 engine that will deliver over 1600 bhp. The Hennessey engine will be mated to a 7-speed single clutch paddle shift transmission and delivering power down to the rear tires. The Venom will also feature an all new light weight chassis and all carbon fiber body, which will give the Venom F5 a curb weight of 2,950 lbs.
The Venom F5’s combination of light weight, low drag and all-American horsepower will deliver a new level of hypercar performance. Acceleration from 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) will be less than 10 seconds making the new Venom F5 quicker than current Formula 1 race cars. Zero to 249 mph (400 km/h) and back to rest will be under 30 seconds. The top speed of the Venom F5 is projected to exceed 300 mph.
The base price for the Venom F5 is $1.6 million US dollars. The company plans to build 24 examples.
