Between Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Apples iPhone 7, iPhone 8 or even iPhone X, which should you buy?

Whichever side of the hedge you fall to, the constant remains that for years now, the rivalry between Apple and Samsung is what has both defined and driven the Global Mobile Phone industry. And each of us has been caught between the two brands.

But is that about to change?

Apparently so, according to George Zhao, President of Huawei sub-brand Honor. And this should be as early as the year 2022.

In his speech during the launch of Honor’s Artificial intelligence (AI) powered View 10, and the mid-range Honor 7x in London, Zhao said that after trying out different things over the past year, Honor “was now very confident about its business model”.

Au such, it was now looking to expand globally, particularly to establish itself as a high-end brand in the Chinese, American and European markets.

Until now, China has been Honor’s home market, but speaking of Honor’s ambitions, he disclosed that Overseas market was important if the company was to grow fast enough to become one of the top five mobile phone brands in the next three years, and even more ambitiously, one of the top 3 brands in the next five years

He further revealed that whereas the company had not identified a specific market it wants to grow, it had nonetheless earmarked to increase traction in markets such as India, Indonesia nd Russia, adding that he saw the company’s Global strategy as “very balanced.”

So there you have it, a potential new entrant to reshape the global Mobile Phone market, but how realistically can this happen? I mean, Apple and Samsung have been around for a while and are obviously still growing strong.

Still, take Zhao for granted at your own peril. Yes, only 12 months ago, Huawei, Honor’s parent company made similar claims about challenging for the top spot in the global smart phone market. Many took it lightly, including me. But boom! It happened.

In September that claim actualized as Huawei actually overtook Apple in second spot behind Samsung. Huawei and Honor, Zhao said was a ‘dual brand’.

So there Honor comes. And by the way, you can look up its latest Smart phone which was launched in that event and which Zhao described as marking the beginning of a ‘new era’

I will nonetheless shortly be posting about it, in all its summarized elegance.
