Which came first? Netflix or Google.... The Answer will shock you!

So I came across this interesting little fact today that blew my mind. It involves two of the most recognisable companies. Netflix and Google...

What is really interesting was to learn that NETFLIX predates google... yeap. You read that right. NETFLIX (the online movie and tv show streaming service) was first released on August 29th, 1997. Over a year before Google first launched in September 1998.

Netflix was quite different back then. Think of a Blockbuster but in the mail. They would let subscribers order movies via the US postal service and then return the movie once watched in return for another.

The logistics of this sound terrible, but it existed for those who lived too far from Video Rental places or were just too introverted to go into Blockbusters and hire a film.

The Company still offers this DVD delivery option on several movies in their catalogue but ships only in the USA.
The Netflix that we know today which features mostly streamed content came to fruition in 2007 and has financially struggled ever since. Mostly due to high licencing costs and international restrictions.

So there go.... who would have known that NETFLIX came before google :)
