Intel's 25-year dominance in the hardware market has been interrupted by Samsung.

The South Korean company has overtaken Intel and is already the world's largest hardware maker. This became clear after the company published its financial results for 2017.

Samsung's hardware division reported revenue of $ 69 billion last year. For comparison, Intel recorded revenues of $ 62.8 billion for the same period.

Intel's earnings jumped 6 percent annually, making the company record a record year in its history.

However, Samsung has managed to break the dominance of the US producer, which has been the leader in revenue since 1992, Bloomberg reports, quoted by TechCrunch.

The pinnacle of peaks did not come as a big surprise, as in the previous period Samsung beat Intel on a quarterly basis, but at the end of the year it was behind the US company.

One reason for change in the leadership position is the boom of mobile devices in recent years. Samsung has a clear focus on mobile devices, with almost every chip produced for smartphones.

Intel, on the other hand, dominates the global desktop and notebook PC market but has failed to catch the new wave and take a share of the mobile hardware market.

Overall, Samsung's consolidated financial statement shows annual earnings of $ 50.7 billion in revenue of $ 225 billion. For the last quarter of 2017, the company's revenue amounted to $ 62 billion and operating profit was $ 14 billion.

The last three months of last year stood out with higher profits, but lower revenues than the previous quarter. Specifically, the mobile business of the company recorded a slight decline of 3.2% compared to the same quarter of 2016.

In 2018, Samsung will step up its focus on Cloud Services, Artificial Intelligence and Automotive Production.

On the smartphone front, where the company is best known among consumers, Samsung will devote itself to developing bendable displays. The company will continue to develop and smart its services with a focus on its Bixby assistant and oncoming 5G technology.
