People has incorporated technology into everyday living; we use technology in different ways and the impact can sometimes do more damage than good.
Advantages:
Creativity: Now, you don't have to be a celebrity in order to have your talents be seen and heard. This widespread accessibility is helping people express and expose their interests in whatever forms like in arts, blogging in which other people can comment and connect with them.
Social connections: With social media we have never been as connected as we are now. We can keep track of what's happening with our family and friends all over the world. Everyone around us can be reached instantly with a single click.
Entertainment: Technology has given us many ways to entertain ourselves. Various websites, including Youtube, social media, and netflix, offer hours upon hours of entertainment for those boring nights.
The age of Google: Everyone must have been into a situation when they google the answer to a question they didn't know. Before we would have to use extensive research to find an answer, now we can use google to almost anything and the information comes almost instantly.
Efficiency: We are now living in a fast pace world. We don't have to wait for long queues in paying bills and do groceries, we can now do it online.
The increase benefit we get out of modern technology is associated with undesirable side effects.
Disadvantages:
Dependency: Most people are now super dependent on smartphones and laptops. Let's admit it, we cannot go one day without checking notifications and seeing what is going on in the world. This lead us to missing out on many opportunities outside of a smart device.
Social Connections: Social media helps us to stay connected, but also keeps us from seeing each other face-to-face. The advantage of having access to everyone at our fingertips is causing us to no longer meet each other in person; you can just send instant message on someone. No matter how convenient social media is, it can never replace our need to social interaction in real life.
Malfunctions: There is a phrase saying that, “technology is great, until it doesn’t work.” This can cause major problems to a company or an individual who is so dependent on technology, private data may leak and transactions can be altered.
Plagiarism: Plagiarism has become a huge problem in academics. It is very easy to copy and paste information directly from a site, this can compromise our reasoning and critical thinking.
False Information: Not all we see from the internet is factual. With more and more people posting on the internet, the chances that the information being relayed changes and can create different interpretations. It can be very difficult for us to determine whether a source is credible or not. This can lead to false information being taken seriously, and changing perspectives of those who believe it.
Let us use modern technology moderately; with a purpose that helps us to achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively.
One of the biggest issues is that of remote access. But that depends on the tech. But some tech can be bad in that the design is secret. Well, for example, iPhones are designed to listen with the microphone, even when you try to turn it off. The camera can be turned on from a backdoor. The list goes on. But there are alternative technologies that can be better than the bad tech. And like you said, dependency can be a problem.
