Earlier this year, reports circulating on the social media suggested that Apple was working on two models of its wireless headphoness-- Apple AirPods-- one of which was expected to launch in 2019. As per the reports, while the variant scheduled to be launched in 2019 was likely to come with water-resistance technology, the one likely to launch this year was likely to feature support for the command for invoking Siri. However, now a new report suggests that the company is planning to introduce three high-end AirPods, two of which will be launched in 2019.
According to a report by Bloomberg, one of the models, which is expected to launch next year, is likely to feature noise cancellation and water-resistance technologies along with an increased range. Sources close to the company told the English daily that while the water resistance technology may not help people swim with the AirPods, it is likely to make the device resistant to rain and sweat. The new variant is likely to cost more than $159 (Rs 11,000 approximately).
The other model slated to launch next year is likely to feature an over-the-ear style. These hi-end headphones are likely to compete with the likes of Sennheiser and Bose in the mid-range and upper-range market segment. Previous reports suggested that the company was planning to introduce these headphones in 2018. However, new reports suggests that Apple is now targeting a 2019 launch as the company is facing developmental challenges.
Besides this, Apple is likely to refresh its current line of wireless headphones this year by adding a new chip and support for command to invoke Siri. Users will be able to wake up Siri simply by saying "Hey Siri" using the second-generation AirPods. Earlier, users had to double tap on one of the earbuds to activate the company's virtual digital assistant.
Furthermore, Apple is also working on a wireless charging case that is compatible with Apple's upcoming AirPower charger. The Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning on adding biometric sensors including a heart-rate monitor to the AirPods in the future.
