Wasn't it Twain who said, "Politicians and diapers must be changed often and for the same reasons?"
Well, as an anarchist, you know that cleaning up the mess in Washington's District of Criminals is about as easy as trying to spit shine a piece of crap. Just ain't gonna happen no matter how hard you try or how swell your intentions may be.
BUT, while this corrupt political system is still in place, we can take massive steps to expose these criminals who claim to "represent" "us." (Who's the "us" they're always talking about, anyway? I didn't lend my support to any of these would-be overlords, did you?)
Through the wonders of technology a 17-year old kid has developed a web-based app (a plug in) that will reveal who in Congress gets money, who they get it from, how much they got and how that money affects who gets elected!
The rationale is that if we know who sponsors NASCAR drivers, it might be kinda nice to see who's influencing the people who are gonna make the arbitrary laws that are gonna ruin our lives.
The name of the app is Greenhouse and it works with Firefox, Chrome or Safari browsers. If you want the
Here's a screen shot of the main page:
After installation, when a politician’s name comes up, the app will break down their top ten monetary influences. The plugin is FREE and simple to use.
Nick Rubin, the app's developer, says, "From lobbyists to big corporations, politicians receive money from several different and often surprising sources, which in the end determines which issues they focus on, and which stances they end up taking. Healthcare, energy sources, funding for school and transportation, and tax laws are all in the hands of those who have the most money; the question is – who."
Rubin told Vice, "I wanted to put the data at people’s fingertips for them to be able to make the most informed decision when it comes to politics. Greenhouse allows people to see the money story behind the news story."
From the open secrets website: "Nonpartisan, independent and nonprofit, the Center for Responsive Politics is the nation's premier research group tracking money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy. OUR VISION is for Americans, empowered by access to clear and unbiased information about money’s role in politics and policy, to use that knowledge to strengthen our democracy. OUR MISSION is to produce and disseminate peerless data and analysis on money in politics to inform and engage Americans, champion transparency, and expose disproportionate or undue influence on public policy."One of the sources of data for the app is http://www.opensecrets.org/
Rubin says, "“What concerns me is the sheer amount of money being pumped into the system…During the development of Greenhouse and looking over these numbers and seeing how much is being donated—it’s really scary,"
