Do We Need Self-Driving Cars?

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

On March 24, 2017, an Uber self-driving car was involved in a high-speed crash with another car.

At the first glance, this seems to be bad news for the future of self-driving car industry. However, as police announced later, the Uber car had the right of way and bears no blame. As a consequence, this incident is, in fact, evidence in favor of self-driving cars, because it further reasserts that we humans are really terrible drivers. As a matter of fact, self-driving cars could save thousands of lives.

In the US alone more than 30K people die from traffic accidents per year. More than 7,000 of those are people under the age of 25, young, healthy, and the rest of their lives ahead of them if not for a stupid car accident made by human mistake (most road mortality is from alcohol consumption). So yeah, that's why we need self-driving cars!

I agree with this and strongly. I would add that we need to also consider the millions crippled, blinded and mamed as a result of automobile accidents. Safe self-driving cars is an imperative. We have been lulled into discounting 34,000 brutally, killed people each year. That's about a half million since the turn of the century. That's almost as bad as the deaths during the Civil War!

Self driving car is future but if all the work done artificial intelligence then what will human do??

They can just live, I guess!

I still thinking self driving car is future. Accidents can occur, but they occur more or less than with humans?

Very interesting, imagine when people said "man will never fly". I agree, humans suck at driving.
