Good post. People should experiment and reflect on the cost and benefits of their use of technology. I'm sure they'll find improvements to be made with how they integrate it into their lives.

Personally, I reject the idea of retaining a permanently open line for incoming communication. I have difficulty understanding how one can muster up the deepest levels of focus knowing that they can be interrupted from around the world at any moment. I really like to set aside my time and immerse myself in whatever I'm doing as wholly as possible. Subsequently, I often deliberately leave my phone away from my person or switch it onto airplane mode.

I've thought about giving up my smartphone, but it's really too convenient. For maps, public transport timetables and music/podcast/audiobooks alone I find it is a highly valuable piece of equipment worth keeping around.
