What is the Nanotechnology?
Nanotechnology makes reference to the manipulation of the matter at nano-scale. Actually, the word 'nanotechnology' contains all the meaning in itself, because we're talking about the technology but studied at nanoscale, as we said before.
What's different in this technology?
If you think of other technologies you can find biotechnology (tech associated to biology) or technology in engineering. But nanotechnology is about the size, and this is something powerful, because it's a technology which is not associated with any field but to the size, so we can advance and investigate from physics, chemistry, biology or medicine.
We talk about the science of what is small.
Nanotechnology or nanoscience?
Occasionally, people tend to get confused when using the term nanotechnology or nanoscience, and often many people assume that are the same thing, but this is not true.
We are used to study the science of some physical or chemical phenomenon and then, once we have understood what happens, we begin to develop technology associated to that phenomenon.
But when we focus on the nanoscale, we find physical phenomenons that we don't know how to explain, but what we know is how to apply the matter of this size to develop technology.
For the first time, the science is eaten by applicability.
We have the technology and we need to explain the science behind it.
Applications of the nanotechnology
Food industry
Why does the food last so long without expiring? Formerly, food used to expire in a short time, but now the wrapper were the food is stuck has nanoparticles, usually silver particles because silver eliminates bacteria effectively.
Medicine
In this field, we have made the greatest progress, even getting regenerate the skin (synthetically). When we have a skin wound, what we do is remove a very very small amount of skin from the body and place it in a culture. From that, an artificial skin with the same characteristics as the injured one is generated. This means that we will assimilate the implant well and there will be no marks after the placement.
These and many other applications are the future of the nanotechnology. If you're interested in the subject and you want to learn, I invite you to follow my steemit account so you can keep up to date with what is happening in the nano-world.
