RE: The Amateur Society: Artificial Intelligence And Augmented Reality

in #technology8 years ago

I'm not sure artificial intelligence has any limit. Think about a moon-sized computer made for sole purpose of an AI, and you may wonder what it's capable of understanding, but probably those things are outside the grasp of any human and won't make sense to us. It may sound like science fiction to have giant space computers, but drones don't need space suits and AI creating AI is already becoming a thing, some people think AI will conquer the galaxy long beforewe explore it, so by then there could be entire planets converted into processing centers for AI and claiming any limit on it's 500 digit IQ would be silly. Kneel to the AI overlords!

That scenario is something that has been thought about and discussed for at least 50 years. It is the subject of a marvelous short story by Asimov called The Last Question: http://multivax.com/last_question.html

Humans are generally linear thinkers, so we don't tend to forecast exponential situations appropriately...

'last question' is a really catchy title, I think I'll go read it, thanks for the link!
