Prediction For Google's Oct 4th Hardware Announcement

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

For the upcoming Google Oct 4th event we, of course, are not totally blind. Between the billboards, videos, leaks, and rumors, we have more than a little knowledge of what is going to happen. The event will start October 4 @ 9 AM PST.

Google's early Information makes the focus of this event obviously pixel heavy.

I have 4 predictions, and I thought I would share them with you.

Pixel 2 Phones

The main event will definitely be the new Pixel Phone 2. The rumors have abounded considering 2 or 3 phones.

The phones that have been hinted at are the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and the Pixel 2 Ultra. The Pixel 2 will likely have three options black, red, and white. The XL will likely come in two colors black and white. The Ultra will follow suit with the Pixel XL having only 2 colors.

No headphone jack which trends with many other flagship phones. Water resistance is also a possible option. I also suspect the speakers will be much better.

Internals will include an upgraded processor, internal storage upgrade, memory increase, new a Bluetooth version supported. Likely we will see a "squeeze" user input option possibly by default used to launch Google Assistant.

The bezels will be the same for the Pixel, but slightly smaller on the XL and almost non-existent on the Ultra.

With the recent partnership announcement between HTC and Google, we know that both the current version of the Pixel will continue on and likely will be built inside of Google on-going.

Smaller Google Home

The Google Home Mini or Micro or some other creative name will be introduced. A lower cost Google Assistant device would be critical for Google to try to overtake Amazon, especially after their kitchen sink announcement the week before.

Chromebook Pixel

The Google Pixel Book should likely be a nice machine. The last one is getting long in the tooth, and a replacement if long over-due. This will be again a high-end piece of technology. This time around I think we will see a pen. Across the blogosphere that seems to be the consensus.

Daydream View 2

I have seen this all over the web and frankly, I don't believe it. VR is not the horse I would hitch my wagon to. If Google were to go back to an AR solution they would be a better solution. Apple already had a demo of their new AR solution and Microsoft has a great device albeit very expensive.

Gaming Console

I just don't see this. There have been limited reports of a new member of the Chromecast team introducing a TV Gaming system. I really really don't see this as even a remote possibility.

Conclusion

Regardless of how things turn out a new hardware event is usually exciting, and I hope a few good surprises.

Interesting analysis. I'm hoping for some type of gaming system for the Chromecast, but I agree that it is not very likely.

This doesn't ever seem to be a focus from Google, but who knows a few surprises are always good.
