She said, she's finding it hard to breathe, her chest tightened, she's feeling pain all over her body, her temperature is 39 degrees, she's having chills, she's shivering, her pulse rate reaches 136 bpm...
So I rush her to the hospital!
Last January, she was diagnosed with *Kidney Stones. The doctor prescribed her some medicines for it. We thought she will be fine after taking it.
But couple of days later, she's been complaining from excruciating pain on her left abdomen. She takes Tramadol, a kind of pain reliever that her doctor prescribed, every time she feels pain.
May 10,2018. She got admitted to Commonwealth Hospital and Medical Center due to excruciating pain on her left abdomen associated with high fever. She was diagnosed with *Urinary Tract Infection caused by her kidney stones.
After three days of round-the-clock *IV Paracetamol and *IV antibiotic, she went well and got discharged from the hospital. The doctor recommends *Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) for her kidney stones.
May 21, 2018. She underwent *Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) for her kidney stones. After the procedure, she went home in pain and fever. We thought that was normal for an after effect of the procedure.
But two days later, she went worse! She's shivering! I can see her breathing fast, like she was running out of breath. We are all worried! So we decided to bring her to the hospital.
May 25, 2018. She got admitted to Urology Center of the Philippines, Inc. Her doctor told us that she is suffering from *Sepsis: A serious complication occurred after the ESWL procedure.
Definition of Terms:
Kidney Stone - is a hard, crystalline mineral material formed within the kidney or urinary tract. Kidney stones are a common cause of blood in the urine (hematuria) and often severe pain in the abdomen, flank, or groin. Kidney stones form when there is a decrease in urine volume and/or an excess of stone-forming substances in the urine. (Source: https://www.medicinenet.com/kidney_stones/article.htm)
Urinary Tract Infection - About half of women will get a urinary tract infection, or UTI, at some point in life. It happens when germs infect the system that carries urine out of the body -- the kidneys, bladder, and the tubes that connect them. Bladder infections are common and usually not serious if treated promptly. But if the infection spreads to the kidneys, it can cause more serious illness. (Source: https://www.webmd.com/women/ss/slideshow-urinary-tract-infection-overview)
IV Antibiotic- Intravenous antibiotics refer to the administration into the venous circulation of a solution containing antibiotics; (Source: https://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=4064)
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL)- is the least invasive surgical stone treatment using high frequency sound waves from an external source (outside the body) to break up kidney stones into smaller pieces, and allow them to pass out through the urinary tract.
SEPSIS-
Sepsis is a potentially "life-threatening" complication of an infection. Sepsis occurs when chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight the infection trigger inflammatory responses throughout the body. This inflammation can trigger a cascade of changes that can damage multiple organ systems, causing them to fail.
If sepsis progresses to septic shock, blood pressure drops dramatically, which may lead to death.
Anyone can develop sepsis, but it's most common and most dangerous in older adults or those with weakened immune systems. Early treatment of sepsis, usually with antibiotics and large amounts of intravenous fluids, improves chances for survival.
At this very moment, while I'm creating my first #Ulog post, I am in the hospital. It was so heartbreaking for me to see her like this. She is one of the strongest and bravest person that I know. She stands as a father to my kids. She was the one who was always there to help through the hardships of being a single mother. She's a loving sister and a responsible aunt to my kids. Sadly, I cannot do anything in return for her. All I can do is just to stay with her, have my eyes on her, take care of her, while she's here in the hospital. And I hope I can help her by posting this blog.

@maylyn09, I have had sepsis more than once, so my heart goes out to you and your family. Your sister sounds like a strong woman and that inner strength is needed when going through something like this. God bless and keep you both.
