MAKING HOMEMADE WINE #1 Pruning and binding grapes.

in #teamserbia7 years ago

Hello Mr and Ms steemers, it is great pleasure for me to start writing about my everyday jobs
and some planned and unplanned adventures.

As I mentioned in introducing post, my working is mostly connected to outdoors and since my youth age, I am working on a farm. My office is quite big, and it consists from: forests, meadows, fields, orchard and vineyard.
In my spare time i love wandering around, exploring nature, bush crafting, canoeing, hunting and fishing, mountaineering, birdwatching.

A few days ago a have worked in my vineyard. In every spring vines must be pruned and vine canes bound to the wire.
Grapevine is very tough plant and it can be successfully cultivated on pour soils around the globe.
Because of the long and hard root, vine has very lush vegetation, so after the winter vine canes should be pruned.
With pruning, you accomplished stable yield harvest with optimum sugar and acid content in every grape berry.

In following photos, you will see vine cane before and after pruning.

After pruning grapes should be bound to the wire that goes vertically across the whole length of a one vineyard row. Traditionally you use small ropes, 15cm long, to lash canes horizontally instead leaving them to grow vertically.

Before lashing to a wire, vine cane must bend really gently, trying not to break brittle wine branches and also trying not to harm little buds.

From buds in a few days, new vine branches and leaves will appear.

Lashing vine knot is simple and it will keep vine cane securely bonded to a wire.

Vinyard is now prepared for reviving, and for a miracle of awakening from a winter sleep.

Winemaking consists of numerous small steps, that are all related and bonded together. As in life, it is the same thing in the vineyard, small things and tasks are the most precious and they lead to a great wine or to a happy living.

I hope you like my first post.
See you brothers of Steeemit!
