I am serious
I know I know, I have been missing for a while, and I promised my next post I’m gonna write, is gonna be something serious, so you ready?
Have you register for coming election? (Malaysian)
We all know Malaysia general election is coming soon, not sure of the date, but its gonna be this year 2018. Tho rumours had it its gonna be in March.
I came about this tough topic because I saw news article from The Straits Times Link, and some feedback from friends, and people in social media. ST reported that more than 3.8 million Malaysian above 21 year old eligible voters have yet to register. The Malaysian insight The number is staggering. Like legit-ly horrifying. Malaysia only have 31.19 million in population (according to Mr.Google) and we are talking about ten percent 10% Sepuluh Peratus, of Malaysian have not registered, especially the youth!
Yes, we might not like either side of the politician, there isn’t any good policy that was formed by both side, there isn’t any good leaders that had stood out to make a difference, and we all have been disappointed by many rounds of election due to rumoured gerrymandering, ghost vote, and maybe votes from non-Malaysian. But still, we need to vote!
Here’s why.
Your vote can really make a different, if the party you wish to won, yes it might be an overnight victory, if not, you are still making a difference. Why, because if will tell the standing government that something is wrong with them, and they need to improve better or else they are gonna lose their seats in the parliament.
Second, if you do not vote, it affect the whole world. Latest news reveals that Sabah actually contributing over 10% of high quality palm oil to the whole world link. Malaysia I quote “played a major role in ASEAN humanitarian aid missions, both financially and in human resources.” link For those who like to travels to UK, having business in Australia, wanting to buy a house in Italy, we have a decent political ties with 166 countries that we can visit VISA free ever since Malaya was formed. If you already migrated, studying outside of Malaysia, forming a business overseas, wherever you are, your vote can make a difference.
Last but not least, it affects people around you, greatly. Not everyone see eye to eye; your friends, your families, your neighbour, down to those people are not able to read this post due to the lack of access of internet, and lacking of education. However, our vote can make a difference not only to our life, but literally changing the life of others. When you don’t vote, is the lost of the whole nation.
I won’t say who’s the best in leading the country, and I am not tied to any politicians, or having any money to ask people to vote, but I’m gonna vote, that’s for sure. We all went through thick and thin as a Malaysian to come to being one to the most diverse country in the whole world, having Chinese, Malays, Indians, Filipinos, British, yes even the Bangladeshi. We all can live well together because we learn to tolerate one another weakness, celebrating every culture’s celebration, and enjoy the sometime can be very hot then buy 10 bowls of ice kacang, and sometimes rain it flood till we learn how to use sampan punya Malaysia. All of these, in 60 over years, we should be proud of ourselves. So whether we like it or not, I think, personally, we all are responsible for one another, accountable towards the decision that we make in this vote. Even if you have no one to vote, don’t spoil or abstain from voting, vote for the best that you can have in your district, little by little we can make a difference, through baby steps, Malaysia will be better.
If you dunno where you can register, please visit SPR website link under ‘Belum Daftar’, then ‘Pusat Pendaftaran’ for more info. Type in SPR SEMAK ******* to 15888 (******* is your IC number).
Here, I urge everyone to vote, spread the news on why everyone should vote, comment down below if you think otherwise so we can have a good conversation because I wish to understand your view too. Ask your ah Gong, Ah ma, di di, Mei Mei (well, must be above 21 year old la), quickly register and have a vote its not too late to register, leave the 10% to ice-kacang price discount, not on our voting numbers; because freedom is not given, is something that you fight for. My next 5 years is up to you.
