I believe that if you are asked to choose between freedom and 560 million dollars, you will difinitely without any hesitation will choose money. I guess, 10 out of 10 people will give me the same answer. Hey, most people believe that money is essential in their lives, and money is a ticket that can buy them freedom, or is it?

A lady from New Hampshire, the winner of the Powerball Lottery of $560 million jackpot, is suing the state’s Lottery Commission so that she can remain anonymous. The question is, why did she has to go all out to maintain her anonymity?

I've met and knew a few wealthy people personally, some of them loves to show off their wealth by wearing nice expensive suits, who owns big houses, multiple expensive cars, and what they love the most is the attention and the king like treatment that they received. But, some of them are so low profile, that you won't even have the tiniest of clue of them being wealthy, based on their lifestyle, appearance, attitude and the properties that they have. The question that pops into our mind will be, "Why do some wealthy people has different tendency or views about how they wanted to live their lives?"

Let us see the pros and cons of being a millionaire than being just an ordinary people.

The Pros

Whether you like it or not, there is only 1 advantage of being wealthy which is "FINANCIAL FREEDOM". With the financial wealth that you have, you can almost have everything that you desired in this world.

  • You can buy anything that you want
  • You can have all the luxuries that you want
  • You can go for a holiday anywhere anytime that you want
  • You can fund your pastimes and passions
  • You can get the best health care that money can buy
  • You can help people who needs financial aid
  • heck, you can also get beautiful girls around you all the time

Simply to say, wealth can buy you anything that you wanted, what your heart desire. But with all the wealth and money that you have, there are things that you just have to sacrifice and have to live up to for the rest of your lives, if of course you don't have any intentions to change your lifestyles.

The Cons

Being wealthy has many advantages, but the number of disadvantages is almost as much, and just can't be denied. Being rich overnight is much more worse.

  • You'll learn not to fully trust anyone, not your friends, not even your family
  • You'll always feels insecure, even in your own home
  • You'll need security and bodyguards to look after you all the time, even when you're sleeping
  • You are always worried that your money will be stolen and it might not be enough to support your lavish lifestyle
  • You'll never know if you have found your true love, as you'll never know whether your partner really loves you or your money
  • You'll never have any privacy, since most people knows you, they will approach you all the time
  • People will in anyway will try to get their hands on your money
  • You are always worried and afraid that people will harm yourselves, your family and people that you love, just to get your money by force

Those are just a few examples that I guessed are going through a wealthy man's mind. I'm not saying that being wealthy is bad, being wealthy is actually a God given gift, a choice on how you wanted to live your live, a choice to help the unfortunate people around you, a choice to live happily or miserably.

As a conclusion, different people has different perceptions about the meaning of "freedom". Poor people dreamed of being rich as they believe money will provide them the freedom that they desperately need, but wealthy people has different understanding about freedom. For them, freedom means privacy and inner peace, and not to worry about the foreseen and unforeseen danger they are facing everyday due to their wealth.

Interesting read, different people different view. I once read an interview of a famous person.. They asked what he desire the most to which he replied, just a walk down the street minding your own business and no one knows you.

Yup, that's what they really wanted in life, privacy.

Good post @beverlyjoe. You have written it well. The interview, shared by @darrenting is also precise. If I am in their shoes, I just want to have my own privacy.

Thank you.
